The moon orbit has about a month of cycle, so... it's further than that...

Or there are some propellant-free thrusters attached to mirror/shades.

In case of shade, I thought more further it is from surface, less bigger it needs to be?

If we're talking about a simple shade and the surface in question is the planet's surface, then the umbral portion of the shade's shadow gets smaller the further the shade is from the planet's surface, for a given size shade (assuming that the shade is smaller than the source; if the shade is as large or larger than the source, then as long as the shade is between the observer and the source it doesn't really matter where the between the observer and the source the shade is). If the shade gets too far from the planet's surface, then there will be no point on the planet's surface which is in the umbral portion of the shade's shadow. If part of the goal of the shade is to provide something similar to full night on a portion of the day side of the planet, then this is a bad thing. The shade's penumbra gets larger as the shade moves closer to the light source, but it also gets brighter; less of the light output of the source is blocked by the shade the closer the shade is to the light source.
