  • Varying degrees of independence (bombers - none ("stay on target!"), interceptors - lots)
  • Will target and individually avoid incoming missiles
Does that mean less fighters flying into a wave of bombs from Piranhas?

Suggestions / Re: More Forum Ranks
« on: September 11, 2012, 05:33:02 PM »
Personally, I think everything would be fine with no ranks or karma, with everyone labeled equally except moderators and admins.

I mean, I frequent the Bay12 forum, which has no more than 'Escaped Lunatic' for users with less than 5 posts, and 'Bay Watcher' for everyone else. There's also no karma. I haven't really seen any complaints, and the Bay12 forum has ~24 times as many users.

But whatever floats everyone's boat.

Suggestions / Re: Different colored UIs for ships of different epochs
« on: September 11, 2012, 05:20:36 PM »
I'm neutral on the idea: But I'd suggest using orange for low tech, not mid tech, because low tech ships usually are brown, orange and red, so it would fit the style. It does not fit the style of mid tech ships, which are sand/white color.

In addition, orange looks 'older'. At least to me.

Bug Reports & Support / Re: Maneuvering Jets problem
« on: September 08, 2012, 02:28:12 AM »
Or it may just be the rapid change in maneuverability that is tricking you :)
No, I'm pretty sure it isn't. Fire up a Falcon and pit it against a Mule. Hold fire. Turn the Falcon around, and as the Salamander missile is coming, turn on Jets. Let it hit a Jet (and only a jet) and then wait until Jets turn off. Don't move in the meanwhile

Your Falcon should be very sluggish on turning and/or it should be turning on it's own, even with only the main engines on. I just tested it. And I'm pretty sure it's not just me.

Also: What is the deal with this topic? First it was in Announcements, and now its a sticky bug?
It was originally in the announcement thread for 53.1a because I thought it was okay, but Archduke Astro didn't think so. So he moved it here. For some reason, that left a spare thread there.

Bug Reports & Support / Maneuvering Jets problem
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:23:09 PM »
Alex, I think I might have found a bug: If your Maneuvering Jet engines are disabled, your turning seems to be impeded/lopsided even after your Maneuvering Jets are deactivated.

General Discussion / Re: Favorite of Each Class!

Destroyer: I don't really use destroyers, actually. But I'd have to go with the Eagle
The Eagle is a Cruiser. :P

Fighters: Broadswords. Powerful, tough, and fast.

Frigates: No real favorites. But if I had to pick, I'd pick the Wolf.

Destroyer: Hammerhead all the way. It almost has the firepower of an Enforcer with it's ammo belts. It's also tough enough to take a minor beating.

Cruisers: Previously the Eagle, now I'm much happier with Falcons+Augmented Engines due to the incredible speed for a cruiser (up to 200+ with Jets).

Capitals: Conquest. Everything else common seems too slow.

Modding / Re: How do i reset mission highscore
« on: August 31, 2012, 03:15:09 AM »
Shouldn't it be the "mission_scores.json" file in starfarer/saves, not the "missions" folder? The "missions" folder and it's subfolders only seem to have variant files.

current plan is to add doom into the phase group,
Wait, I'm pretty sure I saw a phase group consisting of nothing but a single Doom before in this mod. Are you sure they aren't already added into them?

I might end up just make the stations turn supplies into "assets" that are not for sale instead... right now I kinda want to feel like I'm helping the war every time I dump an atlasful of supplies into the nearest station
Just make sure you leave some buyable supplies, in case the player either runs out far from any survivable enemies or sells all of his by accident.

41
It also seems that the easiest way to take out a station is to swoop in with 200k in credits, buy all the supplies, and immediately jettison it all so you don't instantly explode. Kind of amusing though; capitalism at work!
Player: "I want to buy all your supplies."
Station: "But we need those supplies! We cannot operate without them!"
*Player shows two 100k credit chits*
*Station owners stash chits and open up the entire cargo bay*

The lack of Tri-Tachyon ships, and the rarity of non-fighters makes it quite difficult to build up effective fleets, imo.
High tech ships aren't the only way to build an effective fleet.

And as Wriath said, there is indeed a Tri-Tachyon station with quite a few ships. Not many fighters/bombers, or capitals, but it has multiple frigates, some destroyers, and some cruisers.

43
This sounds fun. I'll be watching this thread, and giving it a whirl.

I'll miss the Gun Runners mod, though, since I highly doubt it's compatible with this mod. Oh well.

Suggestions / Re: Armor Differentiation
« on: August 28, 2012, 01:40:16 PM »
How about having fixed angles that describe the amount of armour points assigned to a specific sector? Say - each 45 deg sector. The origin of angles is the center of the ship. In ship`s hull you can add just percentage values per sector.
Not bad, but it doesn't allow enough flexibility in my opinion.

Discussions / Re: some computer help

It's very outdated. They recently stopped sending out updates for it.
They did? I thought they were going to continue security updates until April 8th 2014.
