Here you can see the Mimir platform in combat with Hegemony fleets to the right.

I probably caused it by going from the platform to Hegemony stations, and then going into hyperspace and back to Mimir again, while the fleets were engaging the station.

I have the save, but it's too big to attach here (3MB archive).

General Discussion / On AI aggressiveness, and chasing ships
« on: February 09, 2019, 08:01:15 PM »
I'm quite baffled by AI behaviour, and its complete unwilingness to engage the enemy. In the early game, chasing retreating pirates is a massive pain in the butt. Of all things in the many, many, many restarts, this has to be the worst issue.

See this, for example:

That Lasher on the right, has done precisely zero in this whole fight. It has an aggressive officer, the full assault command has been given, and yet it's just sitting there doing nothing. The Wolf right there has a steady officer, and is actually doing its job. It's a stupid Cerberus with no hull, why can't they just kill it already?

I then took command of the Lasher, and killed the Cerberus in a few seconds. The officer did nothing in all the time it took me to get there.

In one memorable instance, I was chasing a Mule [P][D], that somehow kept up 200+ speed for several engagements. Like, how?

How does this all actually work, and where do I get those leeroying officers I've heard so much about?

General Discussion / Don't jump into "Very High" danger systems
« on: February 08, 2019, 02:55:21 PM »
I figured I can ignore the beacon, because these fleets are usually spread far enough for me to escape. This time I landed straight in the middle of these packs, and on top of one of them:

They somehow failed to engage me, so I made it to the jump-point.

That derelict near the jump-point is a Legion, so I'm tempted to go back and try to grab it.

Bug Reports & Support / Price displays are inconsistent
« on: January 29, 2019, 11:43:22 PM »
This Piranha unit is listed as having a base price of 6000c. I dock at a planet, and now it says that it'll sell for 1500c. Then it actually sells for 4800c.

There may be similar issues with the F1 displays. I've yet to figure out what's wrong with it, but trading is always way off from the expected outcome based on the displayed information.

Suggestions / Transponder warning for Transverse Jump
« on: January 29, 2019, 12:03:42 PM »
When you use jump points to enter a system, you get a warning that your transponder is off, and an option to turn it on before jumping.

With the Transverse Jump ability, there is no such warning and you can jump straight into a bunch of sector fleets with your transponder off. There should be something that at least lets us know about it.

I don't like the intrusive jump point screen interface, so I'd suggest a flashing message that says something along the lines of "Warning: Transponder offline", while the ship is warming up for a jump. That way I can ignore it if I want the transponder off, but I also won't forget that it's off.

General Discussion / A ship somehow disappeared from a battle
« on: January 25, 2019, 06:43:50 PM »
I managed to capture an Astral with just a couple of D-mods (damaged flight deck and something like flux or armor issues), so I figured I could take on some harder bounties.

I would pilot the Astral myself for a while (loaded with Daggers for the Atropos missiles), and have a Heron with Claws for support (as well as a second Heron for possible backup). A tanky Venture outfitted with swarmers and flak/machine guns for PD would be my escort. That makes 80 points for the initial deployment. I also had two similarly outfitted Enforcers and a Hammerhead in case I could deploy reinforcements.

The target bounty has a full line of Herons and a couple of Eagle/Falcons. I Transverse Jump right next to him and engage. Turns out he actually has like 10 Herons, 4-5 Condors, a Drover, an Eagle, a Sunder, two Falcons and some trash. Ok, no biggie, we can do it. Just stick to the plan.

I order the Venture and Heron to escort me, and proceed to capture a Nav point. There's a Shrike already capturing it. I show it what 6 wings of Daggers can do and... check my reinforcements screen...

Where the hell did the Venture go? It's nowhere to be found. There's no enemies anywhere near that could have killed it. It's just gone...

I deploy the Enforcers, and proceed to decimate the enemy fleet. There are only 3-4 Condors and a Sunder left when the Enforcers finally go down. I only had a little bit of hull at that point, and my backup Heron was way too far by the time I could deploy it.

I really don't understand what happened. If that Venture didn't randomly disappear, I would have won.

Here I left the Shepherd's description empty, and it still creates a space in the description on the left:

General Discussion / Why is there friendly fire?
« on: January 18, 2019, 10:57:29 PM »
I just had a cloud of standard bombs thrown at me by my own Legion. Previously I tried equipping Mules with lots of Annihilator missile packs, which they promptly emptied into my engines.

It makes no sense. We have IFF and self-destruct capability on missiles in this day and age, a spacefaring civ surely has the means to not shoot its own ships.

Suggestions / Option for no automatic rearranging/hiding weapon groups
« on: January 16, 2019, 05:42:59 PM »
I'd like it to stop constantly mess with weapon groups without my input.

Right now the game hides "empty" weapon groups. If I leave some of them empty, I'd like them to still be there, selectable and empty.

It also keeps enabling weapons I disable as soon as I click "ok".

Basically, I'd like to completely lock the groups the way I leave them, with zero "initiative" from the game.

General Discussion / What toggles ship name display in fleet screen?
« on: January 12, 2019, 09:44:35 AM »
Sometimes the fleet screen displays all ship names, sometimes it doesn't and you have to mouse over each ship to read its name. How do I get it to always display all names?

Example, with no names displayed:

General Discussion / Three habitable planets in one system
« on: January 06, 2019, 08:29:52 PM »
I thought I had found a good place for a first colony in a nice tundra planet with 100% hazard rating, adequate farmland, moderate ore deposits, common organics and 3 stable locations. Only 10 light years away from core. Only had to get rid of a pirate base.

Then I explore a red giant right next to it, at 7 light years  :o

Planet 1
  • Terran, 100%
  • Bountiful farmland (+2 food)
  • Sparse rare ore deposits (-1 transplutonic ore)
  • Moderate ore deposits
  • Plentiful organics (+2 organics)
  • Low gravity

Planet 2
  • Tundra, 100%
  • Poor farmland (-1 food)
  • Sparse ore deposits (-1  ore)
  • Scattered ruins
  • Common organics

Planet 3
  • Water, 125%
  • Poor farmland (-1 food)
  • Moderate ore deposits
  • Extensive ruins
  • Abundant organics (+1 organics)
  • Water-covered surface
  • Pollution

There are also three usual cryovolcanic/toxic/rocky planets, and only one stable location.

Not too shabby, huh  :D

General Discussion / Why can't I catch this fleet?
« on: January 06, 2019, 06:39:02 PM »
I'm exploring some star systems, and I found these guys that can't be attacked apparently. I can only harry their retreat. I've already destroyed a bunch of similar fleets.

They have top speed 126, while my Wolves at least 175. Maybe it's because they have burn 11, while my ships are 10 at most?

General Discussion / Do sold items ever disappear?
« on: January 04, 2019, 07:34:17 PM »
After salvaging some expensive things, I've been wondering whether I should sell them or store them. I'd like the cash, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to buy them back if I ever need them. Like, some ship blueprint was worth 300.000c.

I think I've seen at least some items stay, but is it true for any/all of them? Also, I thought of maybe buying out all weapons I come across and selling them on one planet so I could conveniently refit my ships there.
