General Discussion / Re: Transponder ON in the midst of a battle?
« on: January 23, 2024, 07:16:03 PM »
Except I'm not a civilian, I'm a mercenary with a commission and I have helped the regular forces defeat their foe.

Listen, I'll stop discussing the subject, it seems obvious no one but me sees a problem, so that's on me.
Even if you are an informal part of their forces, you have to keep your IFF on all the time. Turning it off is not really a thing, and in a battle they will have standing orders to shoot you down.

Something is amiss here; the whole area is a battlefield! In an area where military operations are ongoing, you don't ask ships to keep broadcasting their position.
The thing that is amiss is the fact that your civilian ship is flying in a war zone, not your transponder.

Modern civilian aircraft is not allowed to enter airspace where combat operations are ongoing. They probably don't even want to in the first place. They don't turn off their transponders.

Military aircraft use IFF systems to keep track of their own forces. Their orders are to either hold fire, attack only identified hostiles, or attack any hostile or unidentified aircraft. So the whole idea of turning off your transponder makes you a rule breaker either way.

Maybe your registry remembers the old installation.

Imagine reading the title out of context.

General Discussion / Re: Why not put it on Steam Early Access?

Surely not every single of 150~ million Steam users is toxic?
Not every single, but it only takes a few vocal individuals to ruin the community. Before you know it, there will be demands to implement x feature (not even suggestions), complaints about the frequency of patch releases and bug fixes, all kinds of game dev experts will be posting how bad the game is etc etc.

And don't call me Shirley  :P

Steam playerbase is a bit too toxic for it, I think.

OP is an esoteric AI whisperer then  :D

In the video: ships fight in a neat formation, civilian ships follow orders and don't do anything stupid

In my game: everyone gets in everyone's way, civilian ships rush the enemy and ignore everything I say

9
This is no longer a video game  :D

General Discussion / Re: Will StarSector ever go MMO?

If Starsector sells millions of copies after release, and Fractal Softworks gets bought for half a billion by Microsoft, and Alex retires leaving the IP to the new corporate owners to milk, maybe?

^

So you're saying it's possible?

^^ this is not really the dev interacting with us, it's a Alpha core, Alex is an Alpha core.

Can we sell him then?

2. If the answer to #1 is "Yes", is the game in a completed enough state to enjoy a full experience?

It plays like a fully completed game, but there is ongoing development to rebalance, redesign and introduce new stuff.

I don't turn on Ironman, but I restart the game whenever my flagship is destroyed.

It would be nice if everyone that defends one thing or the other, posted some videos that show how that actually works.

Apparently it only exists on discord somewhere:
