Testing out the mod currently... I have a tendency of doing an insane amount of damage to my own ships instead of the enemies with the large beams. XD Oops

Edit1: Not sure if it's a known issue but every now and then the sounds for the large beams cut out... or they arent played at all... maybe too many diffirent sounds playing at the same time? :O

For those interested, I've begun working on the Shivans.

I'll give a bit of my idea on how they will be balanced, then show a bit of a preview.

I'm not going to make the Shivans a "playable faction", at least not in terms of them having a station, or any place to purchase their ships. They will generally be pretty powerful, and have difficult-to-defeat fleets.

That said, because this is Starsector and supposed to be fun, you'll be able to capture the ships... if you're lucky.

And the shivans were always my favorite faction / race... Q_Q

Either way an awesome mod i'm loving the beam weapon effects and sounds! :D

Edit1: I sure hupe you actually put the Sathanas and colossus to the game but considering how much armaments those 2 have and their size compared to the other ships in the game it's probably going to be a pain in the ass to balance. Doesnt Sathanas have 4 large beams on those "spikes" at the front? 1 salvo from all 4 of 'em was enough to take down colossus in a few seconds if i remember correctly.

Edit2: bolded the wrong text.... Anyway i think it's fair to make the shivans not have a station or any other way of buying their ships... hence you can keep them a bit overpowered i think? (They were OP anyway. <.<) Within the limits of reason of course.

Naaa... Build it yourself... all you need is alot of ice... a box to fit it in... and a blanket to make sure your skin doesnt get in direct contact with the ice. :D That my friend is what i call a poor mans cryostasis box thingie. XD

One thing i'm interested in is that eventually.. when you're going to implement multiple systems... is that um.. how are you going to plan the "travel system" between them? SPAZ did where you get this big map and you are able to goto all the systems you have unlocked? Or possible you'll have to fly your ship manually (if you wish)through... um..? how do ships travel long distances in Starfarer? FTL drives? (Faster than light) Subspace drives? (Like in freespace) Or perhaps some stargates that let you travel from gate A to gate B...?

Cryostasis mate! And make sure to time it so that it's going wake you up when the starfarer is fully released or before then. XD

The end result is supposed to be something much closer to Escape Velocity than a 4x game.  Though now that I think about it, a 4x game with this kind of in-depth battles would be pretty incredible also.  The last thing I heard was that Mount & Blade is a good point of reference for predicting what the open world will be like. 

I'm hoping for something with the heart of Escape Velocity, the innovations and advancements of Mount & Blade, and the depth of X3.

I'm not so naive as to expect a AAA game from an indy developer, and I'd certainly want Alex to resist the temptation of feature-creep that kills so many of these projects.

Mount and Blade with spaceships will do me just fine.

I can imagine that... Instead of being inside the space ship you'll ride it... and use lightsabers as weapons.

Personally i'm looking forward to the open-world aspect of the game. :D The only thing i have a hard time getting used to is the limited number of "commands" you can give to your fleet mates.. "YARR LET'S MAKE THIS ÜBER BIG PLAN THAT WILL CONQUER THE UNIVERSE!... Out of commands points fack.. and i'm not even half way there.." :D... Yea... i forget to watch the little counter top right hand corner of the screen untill it's too late. :D

Question is.... Will there be somekind of "Core" or "main story" to this game? Or is it really just about the open-world? Heh personally i'm being hopefull and hope that i'll get the option to conquer star systems in my name! >=D

Not sure what drivers mate... i dont own rage... i rerolled my drivers to 11.1 if i remember.. the basic AMD Display Driver... it worked for me... and besides... currently rage doesn't work on AMD very well.. or it's just a pain in the ass to get it working.

Update on this: I found out the the retail AMD drivers suck.... a friend of mine is using "optimized" AMD drivers.. which are... let's just say better than the original one's... the game works fine for me with the optimized drivers. A word of warning though!

So AMD users.. make you're choice... personally i took the "risk" and downloaded and installed it and the game works fine! It had a random crash though on one of the missions... gonna see if i can reproduce it.

Edit: Hmmm... i found my solution... the problem is with my AMD Radeon 6870 HD drivers... i heard that the latest drivers are extremely glitchy and people are having problems with them everywhere

Well i'm not sure if you can do anything about it on your end... since the problem lies with AMD's latest drivers being a pain in the ass! Meh.. I'm hoping that AMD does something about.. or a much better solution for me is to get a new graphics card.
