Starsector: "That's my secret cap. Every year is a slow year for Starsector."

Nah, I jest. Way I see it, this game's development is kind of like Better Call Saul. Sort of slow moment-to-moment, but the payoff is spectacular.

Apologies in advance if this question has already been asked but:

How do the colony factions work? When do they appear? I don't recall them ever showing up in an (albeit brief, like 1 hour) playthrough I did with this mod. Where and when do they show up? And does it work the same way in Nexerelin's Corvus mode? I'm looking to start a new playthrough soon and I am quite interested in this system.

"Kidnap VIP"

Oh man, I'm hyped. There is SO much potential in this system, I'm very eager to see it tapped.

General Discussion / Re: Make the Core Worlds Larger
« on: November 03, 2019, 02:43:52 PM »
I'm okay with the Core Worlds' size, my gripe is that, other than Valhalla and Kumari Kandem, there are very few systems in which interesting conflict take place, and even then, there are no markets big enough to really offer anything in the way of large-scale battle between the neighboring factions. The Hegemony and Persean League are described as mortal enemies, but we NEVER see them fight one another.

It would be cool to see a system on the border between Hegemony and League space inhabited by both factions or one shared by the Luddic Church and Tri-Tachyon; with the two locked in a eternal fight for control. Or even a binary system in which one faction has a presence around one star, and the other faction has a presence around the other. Maybe a crazy system with Hegemony, Tri-Tach, and the Luddites that represents a huge free-for-all.

There is a lot of opportunity for that sort of thing that I feel hasn't been capitalized on. All we have are markets owned by pirates, who can't really put up a fight most of the time unless there is a raid coming in from out-of-system.

I'm sure those missiles will do a ton of damage when they reach the enemy in a few years

Well as I remember, Alex said he's planning to do a 0.9.5 release before 1.0.

Aw man, I was pumped that it would be feature-complete for the next update...

Oh well. I'm along for the ride either way.

"Remember Uomoz Sector?"

I really underestimated just how long I've been following this game. I was in high school when I started. I've gone to college, learned 2 instruments, and started an office job in that time. This thread is making me feel existential.

The Domain's return would be a DOPE endgame scenario in lieu of Stellaris' crises. Enormous fleets of unstoppable Domain ships surge through the Sector, looking to take it back, cast down the Hegemony posers, and reimpose order. It's up to you to either stand against them alongside the rest of the Sector, or help them retake what was once theirs.

No idea how that would fit into the lore, but that's what came up just now in my sleep-deprived brain.

I've been with the game since before Hyperspace was even a thing - believe me when I say this is pretty par for the course. And being that this is likely the final update (or at least the "release") I'd say the wait is going to be even longer than usual. My money is on Fall next year, if we're lucky.

That said, I've admittedly been itching for some more info on the next update. Blog Posts are always a welcome read and are super tantalizing. Though I'd imagine most of what is being worked on right now is content-related, and I can see how it would be tough to make a Blog Post on that sort of thing interesting and spoiler-light.

My point being: if you have another game you want to play or follow, I suggest you do that for the time being. This will take a while.

Suggestions / Re: New identity

you do actually pay for a new identity for a Luddic Path member to get information on where their space station is

Well yeah, but I figure it's easier for one guy to get his identity changed then a warlord who commands an entire fleet of Paragons and the second largest fuel distributor in the galaxy.

Perhaps if your entire fleet is destroyed in Iron Man mode, there can be a little bit of fluff text to the effect of "After a few months and a change of identity, you once again command a small force of ships." Maybe this could reset your rep with other factions to give you a chance to start anew? Idk

I thought the A.I. was good at piloting the Hammerhead. Then in a huge one-sided battle, the A.I. thought it would be a good idea to take one of my hammerheads to the edge of the map despite orders to stay and defend a control point, where it got surrounded and quickly wiped out by a huge number of pirates.

This happened two more times. I was furious.

No they're not.

One such alliance was formed by the only real marines in the sector at the time of the Collapse. A detachment sent by the Domain pre-Collapse, as matter of policy, they were hardly an elite unit. However, they had the equipment and the mentality to be fighters. The name of the unit was the 465th Legion, and their settled world remains Selenius IV, in the Selenius system. They banded together with those they considered their fighting equals in space – a patrol wing of the Naval Colonial Security Forces, based off the asteroid belt in the Sanguinar Major system. Neither one of the units accepted the control of Task Force Pollux and fought for the independence of their planets. They fought not only the Hegemony, but pirates and corsairs, warlords, Ludii and other small time alliances.

And I read the bit about the 465th Legion. Are there any plans to add them as a faction to the game, or is it moving in a different direction?

I apologize if this has already been asked, but do you plan on adding missions like the Red Planet in this update? As a lore nut, I loved that mission chain and I would love to see some more before the long wait for 1.0 or whatever comes after .9.1.
