Bug Reports & Support / Xpadder not working?
« on: June 10, 2017, 10:12:46 PM »
This might sound weird but I tend to play a lot of games with a combination of gamepad in my left hand and mouse in my right. It's just a habit I got into a long time ago and it's useful in a lot of games. Using an analog stick a instead of WASD works much better for me.

Anyway, Starsector is one of those games I play like this. I usually use Xpadder and I've never had a problem in any of the previous versions but for some reason it doesn't work in the new update. Everything works fine when I open Xpadder before I launch but when I'm in game nothing from my gamepad seems to register. Funny though if I alt-tab out, it goes back to working perfectly, mimicking the mouse etc.. but then stops when I tab back in. I've never even seen behavior like this when using Xpadder over the years. Any idea of what it could be or how to fix it?

General Discussion / Recommend similar games?

I absolutely love SS and it is one of my all time favorites. If I had it on Steam I'm sure it would tell me I have 300+ hours but even after you have tried all the mods over and over, you can get bored. Combined with the absolute snails pace at which this game progresses leaves me wanting. No offense to Alex because this game is incredible but I've seen many one man developed games start and finish in the amount of time Starsector/Starfarer has been in development. I'm not sure if time/money is a factor but I guarantee if this was on Steam in Early Access the $$$ would be rolling in. Nobody even knows about this game and it's the best game nobody is playing. I've heard all the reasons/arguments as to why Alex hasn't gone that route just yet so you can spare me all that, but in the meantime does anyone know of any other games that might scratch that SS itch?

I have played plenty of space sims but SS has that special something that many other spaces games don't. I've tried Weird Worlds, SPAZ, FTL etc.. but if anyone has suggestions, I am all ears, thanks!

Suggestions / I'm probably in the minority on this but...
« on: September 02, 2015, 10:22:05 AM »
I would really love to see gamepad support. Or at least partial support. I have been pc gaming ever since the days of the x486 but I typically prefer a gamepad for most of my games and in fact for SS I use Xpadder and a 360 controller. I hold my gamepad in my left hand and my mouse in my right when I do battles.

The top down twin-stick action in SS just begs for use of a gamepad imo and I would really love to see it implemented if possible.

Bug Reports & Support / Can't update to 0.65.1
« on: January 05, 2015, 04:48:14 PM »
When I click on the download link from my email receipt it only downloads 62a and not the most recent version. Is there some other way to get the update? I have my product key if necessary, thanks.

General Discussion / Starsector flying under the radar?
« on: January 23, 2014, 01:32:31 PM »
This game is so freaking amazing and I have put in way more hours into SS than I have many of my released and finished games that are in my Steam library. Where is they hype?!! None of the people on my friendslist have ever even heard of this awesome game. Especially when I see games like Wayward Terran Frontier on Kickstarter that seem to be directly copying the game. Is this a conscious choice?

All I'm saying is, that this game deserves more exposure and acclaim, imo.

General Discussion / How to roll back to 54a?
« on: September 22, 2013, 04:27:53 PM »
Yeah, I forgot to backup in my excitement for the new update and I was wondering if there is anyway to get the older version? Couldn't see any option from BMT Micro to d/l v54a

EDIT! nevermind I found and old installer

I know that now what used to be fleet points has become some kind of amalgam of different stats that represent the size and needs of your fleet but I'm having a hard time gauging my skill level to how big my fleet is(or is supposed to be)

Not sure if I am making sense but basically I want to know how different ships will affect your fleet points or whatever. I am confused about the fleet points etc.. all work after the update ???

General Discussion / New Let's Play Series! Exerelin Mod
« on: June 02, 2013, 01:07:16 PM »
So I am a bit of a noob at Starsector and I'm also just starting my channel so go easy  :P  I have only been playing for a week or so but I have logged a lot of hours so I am not completely worthless at the game. I breezed through most of Sprog's and Axeige's Lps and I noticed there aren't that many YT'ers doing vids for SS so I thought I'd make a contribution. I am also starting with the Exerelin mod because(it's great! and) I didn't see any vids on it.

If anyone has any tips, hints or feedback I am all ears!

Here is the link to ep1- I do describe a lot of the basics for anyone that may not be familliar with the game, I am aware that most of you will already know these things but it could help get newbies into the game :)
