Suggestions / Re: Player like fleets
« on: December 14, 2014, 11:58:59 PM »
This sounds cool, it reminds me of the Shadow of Mordor Lieutenant system (From the little I've heard about it.).

I think it would be cool if your fleet is destroyed, the admiral that destroyed your fleet should become like your captain's nemesis. He should stay forever, all the while growing more powerful. At least until you manage to deliver sweet justice that is.

i don't really mind long update cycles, if we let Alex do his thing, the game is going to become much better.

The update will be ready Soon (tm)

Thanks Tschudy, has anyone ever told you how awesome you are?

Sorry if the answer is obvious, but which program should I be using to edit the VMparams file? I tried using notepad, but after finishing the edit, Starsector fails to load.

"Mh, I could imagine a kill counter if it is next to a "lifes saved" counter."

I like this idea, but I think that a counter in the actual game would break immersion. I like the idea of a screen after a game ends with things like that on it. Perhaps "Credits worth of property damage" and other things like that would be good. You could have a counter of innocents killed, and combatants killed. Crew death counters and other stuff like that would be cool too. Something to give perspective on your character as the game progresses.

General Discussion / Re: Officers: Are They Going to be Immortal?
« on: December 09, 2013, 12:21:01 PM »
I think it would be a mistake to make them unkillable. I think it would be at odds with the rest of the game's dystopian nature. Also, in regards to training them, wouldn't you not get to pick what skills they upgrade? I think I think it would be cool if they had certain aspects of their character changed depending on what kind of role they for filled in the fleet.

Another thing. If they were to die, the second in command would take over, not some greenie. This would mean losing an officer wouldn't mean the new guy started out with no idea what he was doing. Perhaps the crew level would decide how good he was at his new role.

Making the officers immortal would be a mistake. The one persistent thing in the universe, besides the player. I think Alex should avoid it.

I like Uomoz's compilation. Completely reworks the sector, but it stays true to the vanilla game.
Exerelin is good too, but I find it too overwhelming.

I like all of these ideas! :D

I'm all for spicing up hyperspace, and the phase ships need some attention.

If you point your guns away from the enemy ship, it will lower it's shields. Not a huge issue on smaller craft, but you can whittle down larger ships by snapping back to face the enemy then putting shots into their side as the shield slowly expands to cover it.

Thats quite a cool idea. You could also check out the map while you were moving, making avoiding enemies less more planned, and less of a snap reaction.

I like this idea if only because it spices up hyperspace.

You will be absolutely fine. My five year old, 2gb ram computer can run it with various mods at 60 fps quite easily.

As long as you don't get too crazy.

I like this idea, its always confused me as to how the pirates manage to get enough resources together to field the number of ships that they currently do. If they were less common, but relied on springing traps on people it could be very interesting.

Also, while it is very easy to detect other ships in space, consider the advanced technology of the Domain, they may have found a way around this. Or perhaps the ambushing ships have a support vessel capable of cloaking them all?

I like the idea of there being weird forces in effect, say you're flying around, then you get shunted sideways by a force represented visually with an eddy or something in the background. Something to make hyperspace cooler.

I agree, this is great fun. I really like it. The shuttling mothballed ships makes a lot of sense.
