I just let the squalls hit armor. I can imagine them being more powerful when you can't drop shields for some reason, but then wouldn't most other kinetic missiles be as effective?

I'd like to be able to set up patrol routes for fleets and stuff. Have them focus their efforts in certain parts of the system that I think might be at risk of Piracy.

I'd be down with the ability to fully customise each "fleet type" that gets spawned. All Onslaughts all the time for example.

I really love the look of the Copernic, especially the Hegemony Auxiliary version.

I see where you're coming from Megas, at the moment, being forced to use the (D) variants would be a big disadvantage. The thing is though, it would only be a disadvantage because all the other factions primarily use pristine ships. This idea would likely require heavy balancing, but the end goal would be to have (D) variants being the standard, ensuring everyone is on a level playing field.
As it stands, there really is no reason to use the (D) variants, and that's a shame, because I think they could be really cool.

TLDR: You won't be at a disadvantage, because everyone has the same problem.

The recent update has made the game feel much emptier, and more desolate. The sector really feels like it's a few disasters away from total collapse. I think another thing that would add to this effect would be making (D) ships the norm. I think you'd also have to have a wider array of bad modifiers available to help add character.

I get the feeling that most navies would be building new ships, and restoring old ones, but I don't think they'd be able to replace their losses without pressing some permanently damaged ships into service.
At the moment as far as I can tell the pirates are the only ones that really use the (D) variants, and I think this is a shame as I think they have a lot of potential.

The goal is for undamaged, well preserved ships to feel really special, the way I think a factory new Onslaught should feel. Some ships should feel seriously special.

Not a solution to your problem, but I fly with my hand on the spacebar now. I'm getting pretty good at mashing it.

One potentially intended consequence of this addition is that I now behave much more timidly in areas I know are likely to contain unsavory characters. Space feels rougher, and more dangerous.

The atmosphere is incredible. Without being able to see ships milling around all over the show, the game feels quieter, and foreboding. The flavor text on some of the abandoned stuff in new systems really drove home to me how dire the sector's situation is, and how much has been lost.

I think that the new Eagle looks pretty wicked. The main advantage of the big smooth hull is that when it's damaged, it actually looks scoured out and pitted. The same damage on a greebly ship sort of blends in with the noise.

This would be really cool for at least 2 reasons.

1. It would make the ships feel mighty and strong. At the moment even the largest battleship feels kinda squishy, exploding completely after a barrage of fire, and usually being completely destroyed. If it was forced from the battlefield instead, it would make the ship feel much tougher and more resilient. Less like nameless mooks, and more like BSG-esk behemoths worthy of respect.

2. It would make fleet actions less devastating. I've found building large fleets in this game frustrating. Buying escort ships is hard work, and they seem to be destroyed far too easily for them to be worth it. If they were forced to limp from the battlefield instead of detonating like extremely expensive fireworks it would make it easier to justify taking fleets of ships into combat.

Also it makes me feel all fuzzy to imagine a battered, venerable battleship limping into the dry dock to get the dents knocked out of it's hull.

This is going to make the universe feel so much more majestic and real. This is probably the most excited I've ever been for an update. Besides that one where we all made whiny posts. :P

General Discussion / Re: Fun with missile spam

Templar ships are scary. That thing held out for a long time considering how beset it was. It would be interesting to test this missile barrage against a ship loaded up with flak cannons or something similar. Would it go the same way?

These all sound amazing, except for the hyperspace one about dropping into normal space. Unless you could somehow re enter hyperspace, you would spend an unfun amount of time chugging back to a port, if you even made it at all.

You could (With the right ships) retreat onto the planet's surface and force a fleet of large space borne ships to leave. (Or start a ground action)
Perhaps even with the wrong ships you could attempt a crash landing.

Fight in upper atmosphere where small ships, and streamlined ones maneuver more effectively.

Thats a pretty cool idea. It would be useful when you're being chased by a big scary hostile fleet too.

Thats a wicked idea. Have them throwing off sparks perhaps, or have them seem otherwise unstable and dangerous.
