Discussions / Cataclysm: DDA - Awesome Post-Apocalyptic Roguelike
« on: May 30, 2013, 06:51:52 PM »
Hey guys,

I recently started playing this and I have found it as extremely fun and unforgiving. The game is basically an open-world, post-apocalyptic survival roguelike.

Anyone else here play it? Here's the website if anyone is interested: http://www.cataclysmdda.com/

Hey guys,
Has anyone else been following this nifty device? The capabilities look pretty good and having Micro SD support is really nice. They just opened up pre-orders and I'm thinking of getting it. What do you guys think?

Hey guys,
I've had Star Ruler for nearly a year now, but I have been getting back into it with the Galactic Armory mod. Does anyone else still play it or be interested in a multiplayer game? Also, does anyone know of similar games that are real time and have ship design? I've been watching Stardrive, but the performance issues in the end game have been holding me back.

I've received two random Duke Nukem 3D coupons from Steam these past few days. Has anyone else received weird Steam gifts lately for no reason?

Hey guys,
I've recently started playing a lot of roguelikes, but I don't really like nearly every one of them having a fantasy theme. Does anyone know of any that have another theme such as sci-fi, steampunk, etc.?

Suggestions / Ships with larger radar range than sight range
« on: February 23, 2013, 06:57:44 PM »
Hey guys,

I play a lot of Supreme Commander and I love how when you spot an enemy on radar, it's just a blip and you have to guess what it is or send out some scouts to check it out. I was thinking of how cool it would be to have something similar in Starsector. My idea proposes a new ship type and radar mechanic. Some ships would have a sight range and radar range. Enemies in radar range would be just a blip. Blips would not indicate the size or type of ship, just like in SupCom. Enemies in sight range are "identified", which reveals the ship's information, and can be tracked from radar as identified ships.

Only some ships are equipped with this radar such as cruisers, capitals and high-tech. Smaller ships and many low tech ships do not have the radar. High-tech ships have a much higher reliance on radar than low tech ships, which have a longer sight range.

Other ideas that might be nice to go with this are radar jamming ships and instead of radar scanning being constant, it would be in regular intervals like sonar pings.

Discussions / Rouge System - a new hardcore space sim
« on: February 16, 2013, 04:31:42 PM »
Hey guys,
I saw this great looking game on SpaceSector this morning. http://www.spacesector.com/blog/2013/02/rogue-system-an-hardcore-space-trading-and-combat-sim/

Basically, Rouge System is a new space sim that is currently being Kickstarted here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1298800608/rogue-system. Rouge System aims to be highly moddable, have a story-driven campaign, open world trading/exploring (at $1,250,000 stretch goal) and complex flight system. The game wants to set itself apart by atteantion to detail and more realistic approach to space sims. The $20 tier on the page will get you the base game and some other goodies. If you want to see the game in action, there is already some gameplay footage on the Kickstarter page and YouTube.

Suggestions / Trade products and manufactoring
« on: January 21, 2013, 01:03:10 PM »
Hey guys,
I know this will probably come when Industry is implemented but I think it would be nice to have items that made purely for trade purposes. An example would be Mount & Blade where there are things like iron, linen and pottery that you can only sell. Some trade products could be clothing, highly valuable biomass and alloys. This would give more reason to be a merchant or trader type character.

Now here's my idea for manufacturing. While there are certain items that you can only sell, there would also be ones that can be used for manufacturing weapons, trade products and possibly even ships. It would be a crafting system of sorts and would open up all sorts of possibilities. One could become a weapons producer and ship them all over the system, possibly destabilizing it and making it ripe for piracy. This would only be possible with the proper autofactory (an autofactory that makes trade products can not make ships and vice versa) and UAC.

Thanks for reading and please give feedback.

General Discussion / Give 3 things that you want improved
« on: January 20, 2013, 03:45:55 PM »
Hey guys,
The title really says it all. Just say three things you want improved in Starsector and why. I will start it off.

1. I want the AI not to be able to tell if someone is aiming at them at all times. It gets really annoying when you have perfect shot at an enemy but then they magically realize you are aiming at them, even with a long ranged weapon.
2. I want the simulator to have every ship and variant. The menu for it would look more like the codex so it would not be a crowded mess.
3.I want the game to tell you when you don't have enough crew, fuel and supplies. It gets frustrating when you roll out with a brand new ship, only to find out when you encounter someone that it doesn't have enough crew.

Thanks for reading

General Discussion / How many copies?
« on: January 10, 2013, 10:15:57 AM »
How many copies of Starsector have been sold so far? Also, I know a few games that show a ticker on the website showing copies sold like Minecraft and Star Ruler, could this be put on the website or forum?
