Honestly i haven't used the phase ships much, mostly because they are generally useless. since they are so vulnerable without shields and you can't do anything while phased AND your flux is pretty much a delayed deaths sentence. 1v1 works, sure, but anything more than that is kinda useless. IMHO it all comes down to Dakka: When there is not enough Dakka means you need more Dakka.

you got to know how to use it.

i fly the Shade with deadly results, for the enemy.  ;)

you don't want to stray too far from your fleet, because the enemy has a high bounty on your head.

i find the best way is to use the longest range weapons available, which means Tac Lasers, with the Advanced Optics for extra range.
3 of them is all i need.

with this set-up, it can outrange a Hound or Buffalo in a 1 on 1 fight.

but the Shade is best used in a support role.
and yes, you can do things while phased; make the enemy very nervous and divert their attentions. lol

just tried again with the same saved game and it happened again.

this time i refitted in space:
removed the Advanced Optics + the Accelerated Shield, then take off 1 point off the Flux Vent to make 'room' for the Augmented Engines.

i got the message that the TTS Nostromo had completed the refitting.
but the speed got stuck at 120/240.

but by the time you have finished 'cleaning up' all the enemy fighter and capping points with the Hyperion the battle is as good as done.
the Hyperion should come with a sign painted on the hull that says: "Game Over".  ;)

Maybe they should not be able to capture points. Just say they do not have the equipment on board because they are built so compactly.

but i think the Teleport should only be available only once every 20-30 seconds or so.
that would fix the point capping problem.

also, retreating fighters have no chances to retreat if i fly the Hyperion, unless they have a carrier close-by.

in this saved game, i just refitted my ship at the station.
i just left the station after deleting the Augmented Engines and installing Advanced Optics + Accelerated Shield + 1 point in the Flux Vent

the speed of the fleet should be 120/240 but it is still at 130/260

never mind.

i reloaded the game and this time the speed is correctly 120/240.
maybe restarting Starfarer corrected it.

so that saved game i posted might not be of any use to you.
but the bug is there.
i see it all the times.


in any case, it's not a big deal anyway.  :)

Are you aware that the ship has to finish being refitted before hullmods take effect? This happens instantly if done at a station, but takes a few game days when done out in space.

yes but even at station it doesn't always work instantly.

found a bug:

i fly 1 Shade, with 2 Medusas and one Tachyon Cruiser.

i like to use the Augmented Engines on the Cruiser for long treks between planets.
but sometimes, the effect of the Augmented Engine do not 'stick'.

Given all the tricks you can do with the Hyperion it seems a crime to pilot anything else.

the novelty wears out quickly because it makes the battles way too easy.

retreating fighters have no chances of retreating, unless there's a carrier close by.
and the Hyperion can go from one side of the map to the other in about 5 clicks of the middle mouse button. ;)
way too easy to steal nav and sensor beacons and such.

i used to love the Hyperion before that teleporting stuff.
i just don't fly it anymore.

the Shade is were the fun's at.
for me anyway.lol

Shade all the way.
i like living dangerously.lol

i have a couple of Medusa supporting either an Odyssey or Paragon.

i love playing the Shade because of it support role abilities.
it allows me to think about the bigger picture and defend or strike where it does the most good.

i used the Hyperion before for that but i'm not too crazy about that new teleporting madness.lol

That will get changed though.

really looking forward to that.

i just love flying the Shade.
the Aux Thrusters is almost a 'must' if you want to fly the Shade, as the handling is so-so without it.

fun ship to fly, really intense, as the first mistake you make in a fight is also usually your last.lol
not to mention that the you're on the enemy 'most wanted' list every time you start a battle.  ;D

made a couple of changes.

i removed the Point Defense AI hull mod as 2 Tac Lasers don't do that much good when you are surrounded by 20 missiles anyway.
the EMP 'zapper' does a pretty good job of handling missiles.

i replaced Point Defense AI by Auxiliary Thrusters.
the extra mobility makes the Shade even more fun to fly!

i said previously you can fly through asteroids.

unfortunately, only the small ones.

my only problem is it outclasses everything on the battlefield  including capital ships. Im just asking for the teleport regenspeed to be nerfed.

totally agree.

it was great fun for the first few days but i stopped using it because...

well, because broken Hyperion is broken.  ;)

the battles were over way too quickly.
