I actually didn't consider the guardian.. hm.  Compute each of the beams separately for hit or miss?  Thus it's likely to get in a few hits but maybe not full damage.

Even better may be to disregard the fighter hitroll for PD type weapons completely, lore explanation being that the PD circuitry can accurately target fighters.  This would include the hull-mod upgrade.

It may be an appropriate balance move for beam weapons of all types vs fighters, not just the tach lance.  Fighters generally fair very poorly w/out a shield vs high-tech fleets, and it's the beam weapons that are the "fighter-swatters" such as 2x grav medusas not IR or pulse lasers.

The problem with "hard to acquire" could mean that it's "grind and camp the spawn" until you get enough.  Remember, if there's a way, a player fleet will find a way to equip everything with the most elite, rarest guns and equipment possible if it gives an edge in combat.  I believe that's a design principle Alex has been trying to keep in mind.

I like the idea of having fighters get a hit-roll percentage vs all large weapons (or maybe all beam weapons?)  It stands to reason the larger the mount the harder it is to target a nimble fighter, above and beyond the smaller hitbox already in place. 

I mention all beam weapons because for ballistics and pulse weapons the small hitbox already does the job of making fighters hard to hit.  With perfect accuracy beam weapons giving fighters an edge vs tach lances might be the correct way to balance the tach without under-powering all large mounts.

One question is as beam damage is continuous, how often do you "re-roll" the hit or miss chance for beam damage?  I'd prefer for tach lance (or all burst/beam weapons) it should be hit or miss per burst, either the fighter gets wiped out or evades cleanly.  For weapons like a grav lance or HIL it's a little more tricky....maybe try the base time of a tach pulse (+1) and check balance from there?

Hi everyone. 
Long(ish?  since 0.50) time lurker, first time poster! 
What a wonderful game and a fun group of devotees to it.  Looking forward to giving my .02 to the discussion.

 Just wanted to say hello and nice to meet you all, and ofc ballistics > energy, the Conquest is such a fun flagship to fly!
