Bug Reports & Support / Re: Low FPS in Fullscreen & Borderless Window
« on: November 03, 2015, 06:20:37 AM »
Rats thought I remembered to include everything. I am running windows 8.1, so I don't think this is a Windows 10 thing. And I'm also running on the newest drivers. As of now its workable, and I'm lucky enough not to have any FPS issues running off the integrated graphics package. Whatever, I'll take what I can then and be on my way. Thanks for all the help guys.

Hey guys, I also returned to the game after a fairly long hiatus, and after upgrading to a new PC, I am also experiencing the same issue. I have encountered low fps when running fullscreen on my GPU, and my idle percentage is zero or close to zero at all times. I am using an nVidia 860M GPU, and also have integrated graphics on board via an i7. I have attempted many of the solutions already offered here on the forum, including running x64 java, allocating more memory, checking that my nVidia GPU is running the game and not the integrated graphics, running in windowed and borderless windowed, disabling Aero themes, disabling dpi scaling, disabling vSync, and checking AA settings on my card. So far, the only two solutions that have made a noticeable difference in the performance of the game are running in windowed (not borderless windowed) with a custom resolution and running the game on my integrated graphics as opposed to the 860M. I've chosen the latter as the lesser of two evils, since I can still run in full screen at 60 fps without any serious issues, but it most likely provides a lower performance ceiling than I would encounter using my graphics card. I just wanted to inform others that this issue can be reproduced, and that there is another temporary solution (running on integrated graphics). I suspect this is a result of sub-optimal interaction between nVidia hardware/drivers and Starsector, and from a development standpoint its unclear whether this is the dev team's issue to fix, but I would appreciate any attention and help that can be directed to the matter. Thanks!

My point of advice is to make sure not to buy the green crew unless you absolutely have to. They seem really stupid to me. Hence the name?  ::)

BTW, everyone's attitude on this thread is my reason for waking up in the mornings.  ;D

Who's to say that they know exactly what the will of God is? To decide that is to make yourself equal to Him.
God calls to all of us to treat others in a non-biased way that accepts all groups of people irregardless of race, religious stance, or sexual orientation.
Pardon me, but are you not doing here what you called impossible a few sentences earlier?

Whoops. Just my personal opinion. Should have prefaced it.  ;D

No offense to you CT, but can anyone else confirm? I'm leery of anything with the words free and internet mixed in. I generally need about 2-3 confirmations for this type of thing to fly.

I don't know if you personally are actually catholic or not, but it is my belief that Christianity seeks to invite everyone into the brotherhood and love of God. Regardless of the stances that the Catholic Church and even the pope take on certain issues, the Church and the pope are both products of man, and therefore, flawed. Who's to say that they know exactly what the will of God is? To decide that is to make yourself equal to Him. In addition, even if God is constantly inspiring all of the Pope's actions and thoughts, it doesn't mean that the pope is properly interpreting and executing this inspiration. In the end, all you can do is try to be the best person you can be, and I believe that is what Christianity is truly calling us to do. God calls to all of us to treat others in a non-biased way that accepts all groups of people irregardless of race, religious stance, or sexual orientation. To discriminate or segregate someone based on their sexual orientation (or whatever it is you are talking about, no offence, i just don't understand it) is to judge someone based on something they are born with, and is tantamount to racism, which also discriminates based on a genetic trait. Your religion teacher may or may not agree with these views, but if she treats you unfairly because of your views, stances, or any other issue, then she is a poor Christian and a bad person in my eyes. At that point, you are perfectly validated in destroying her with logic and/or raising a hubbub. You are entitled to and responsible for expressing your views, and I hope you choose to do so. So hopefully there are a few arguments you could make wrapped up in there. Good luck and God bless.

*I don't generally bring religion into things so don't hold it against me 'kay?  ;D

Wait are you lowering my resolution?  JK. ;D

I did that some time ago, from 1920x1080 to 1600x900. Menu and text readability has much improved and the sprites are bigger without becoming pixelated. I can only recommend it.

Are you really a PC gamer?  No PC gamer with any sense of decency would lower his resolution.  ;D

For example, a system 25% of the original size would still take the normal amount of time to travel.  Let's say you cover a distance of 1000 pixels in 20 seconds at 50 pixels/second.  Take the pixels and time and divide it by 4.  250 pixels in 5 seconds, still at 50 pixels a second.  You can fit more systems into the original map this way without making travel seem longer.  Does it take that much math?

Wait are you lowering my resolution?  JK. ;D

Okay, so we can overlook beginner mistakes on every new user?

Well what if we didn't? Why not give the people benefit of the doubt. It seems pointless to me to make someone else feel bad, regardless if they should have known or not. Why not make the experience for new users "Oh, hey I totally screwed up, but the people on this forum are really welcoming and considerate! This motivates me to be a more responsible member of this forum and I can't wait to help other new members understand the community's stance on certain issues in a way that makes everyone feel good!" ? I dunno. I feel like people on this forum can be a bit elitist if you ask me (Not you Upgrade). The fact that someone went to the effort and gathered the courage to make their first post on the forum is reason enough to give them the benefit of the doubt. If you're going to be elitist, you have to better than everyone else right?

Daily Soapbox Session concluded.

We all know. The know.

I don't get what that means. I'm probably just stupid. I dunno. Have faith guys! With a positive attitude and a guiding hand, I think we can avoid the past failures of other forums and integrate a far larger amount of equally intelligent, equally reasonable human beings. It just takes a few less than gentle nudges in the right direction.
