General Discussion / Re: Harpoon MRM overpowered?

Harpoons are great for taking out enemies quickly, especially in early engagements when you have to be careful about being overwhelmed.

I generally play vanilla (occasionally use my own modded ships) but I do really like the Neutrino Corp. Very distinctive, interesting, and strange designs, and some cool weapons.

I usually do most of my solo zipping around in an Enforcer. However, running a Venture with the fighter swarm is great fun too.

Wow! No feedback in under five hours?!? Everyone must hate you and your mod!

...no. Everyone's still playing the new vanilla. Or, you know, they have lives.

General Discussion / Re: Switching into a hyperion
« on: August 17, 2012, 01:38:56 PM »
It can be nearly impossible to get into a hyperion once the battle has engaged, anyone have any tips to get them to stop teleporting all over the place so i can get in and salvage a battle?

I ran into this yesterday, haha. I think the best possibility is to give it a waypoint or tell it to capture or escort something.

And, it's not just two Reapers. It's four, which is Onslaught-pulverizingly powerful.

The problem with the Omen is that their shield efficiency was cut by more than half.

I have no problem with this. It was incredibly hard to kill before, cheap and easy to outfit, and hard-countered an entire class of weapons and ships (while also being incredibly dangerous to larger ships without 360 shield coverage.)

Now, you can at least force the damn thing away with weapons fire.

The Conquest is very good at packing Capital-level firepower and range onto a platform with the speed and maneuverability of a cruiser. It's not a slugger like an Onslaught or Paragon, but it's devastating nonetheless.

While trying out the new Onslaught, I fought with a Conquest, and well, it looks like its AI still sucks when it comes to broadside.

I mean, it actively used its maneuvering jets to turn itself frontally to my guns.
Unless it's a evasive move to decrease possible damage zone...

The Conquest has actually used its Reapers against me now with the maneuvering jets. The AI isn't perfect, but the Conquest is fairly well outgunned in that matchup and needs its Reapers to equalize firepower.

Only problem:  Now the Conquest is the weakest Capital Ship.

I tested this theory, and while it doesn't have the OMG OWNS FACE factor of a new custom Onslaught, it's much easier to fly and can get scarily fast and maneuverable. It's great support against large capitals (the long range ballistic firepower it can bring to bear is pretty impressive) and it is very dangerous against multiple cruisers while being less vulnerable to flanking.

Also, Omens aren't a problem; they have to get very close to the Onslaught in order to use their EMP, and Omens tend to die well before they get in range. The phase ship with the EMP system is dangerous, but typically can't disable enough weapons fast enough to survive.

I'll admit, I never really got on with the Onslaught. Too slow, too hard to turn, too easy to flank, and with all said and done just not enough firepower to justify the frustration of waiting to get into the action. The Conquest was faster and more maneuverable with the ability to bring almost as much firepower to bear, and the Paragon could outrange and outlast it.

With the new patch, the combination of Burn Drive and the Thermal Pulse Cannons + Mark IX Autocannons + Integrated Targeting Unit, this thing is terrifying. Absolutely capable of taking on entire fleets at range, and survivable enough to handily win a slugfest against a Conquest and two Dominators in the simulator.

And, with Burn Drive, there's less enemies running away, and less waiting to get into the action.

Kudos to Alex for making the ancient behemoth scary again!

Basically, what the title says. This is bigger news on the ponderous Onslaught than the Dominator or the Enforcer.

Once the Burn Drive stops, the ship automatically slows down to the ship's max speed, without the zero flux bonus, no matter if you have zero flux or not.

Is this intended? If not, it's kind of annoying (albeit small), since you have to re-accelerate to the flux bonus.

The Omen is what really makes it tough for me. Frontal shields only = getting my engines EMPed into nothingness constantly. I can take out all the fighters and make significant headway on the Astral, but I can't kill the Omen and it eventually disables almost everything useful on my ship.
