Pretty simple really: I don't know how close my fleet is to reaching the next speed threshold.
Consequently I don't know how many ships I have to drop from my fleet before I see an improvement in speed.

I honestly don't see the need for stepped fleet speeds.

If it's a workaround to prevent the AI fleets from chasing a slightly slower fleet for ages; fix the AI.
If it's to allow players to better differenciate fleet speeds, just show us the actual speeds along with an ETI. (Estimated Time to Intercept)

Stepping the fleet speeds doesn't seem to accomplish anything besides obfuscating the game mechanics which IMO is a step backwards.

Oh, and as this is the suggestions forum.... my suggestion is..... roll-back the stepped fleet speeds  ;D

I always liked the idea of phased weapons/shields (as seen in the Space Empires series).

Phased weapons bypass regular shields, but not phased shields.
Obviously phased shields would need to have some inherent disadvantage to regular shields. (weaker/less efficient/more costly/slower to deploy etc etc)

... it's probably a pyrhhic victory that cost me way too many experienced crew and I'll want to reload.

Doing this will always break game balance. When considering the value of a ship mod you should assume players will not do this.

Further to this, I'd like to see an option (at character creation) that removed this temptation (à la Mount & Blade)

Unfortunately I don't know if the wing had any fighters alive when the battle ended.

I wonder if this bug might be related to this bug.

Happened again.
Exactly the same scenario, though this time it was a Paragon that was in the process of entering the battlefield when the battle ended. (It was moving onto the field, but not yet within map bounds).

0.51a already contains such AI logic; what version was the OP using?

It might have deployed and retreated at the same time and bugged out.

I don't think so.
The opposing force was "escaping" - so would have had to retreat off the bottom edge of the map, not the top.

Battle progressed as normal.

I captured all objectives & was killing the enemies one at a time as they entered the map.

The final ship arrived (An Aurora), it was off-screen but it's icon was shown on the screen-edge radar hint.

About 3 seconds later the battle ended; the Aurora was not killed, nor did it retreat. (as is shown in the post-battle report).

5 cluster bomb bays (they're ballistics, not missiles!)
Expanded Magazines (they're ballistics, not missiles!)
Engines and Maneuverability mods for faster approach on the bombing runs.
Slap on some sabot SRMs on the missile slots to soften/break the shields. (actually, reaper torps work out better)

5 bomb bays, 60 bombets per bay, 300 damage per bomblet.... that's 90,000 High Explosive damage :o
Not bad for a 5 point frigate ;D

Can kill pretty much any cruiser without breaking a sweat.
Capital ships are a little tougher, especially ones with flak - as they can take out dozens of bomblets in one shot.

Are we going to see a direct-fire key bind for groups?
So I can for instance, bind mouse 4 to fire a group of my choice without having to switch to it?
It would shortcut the current process of change group -> fire -> change group back.

"Shreds enemy missiles and fighters...." is the flavour text.

A medium mount assault weapon is never going to be able to even target missiles, nevermind shred them!

Either the flavour text needs revising, or this weapon should be set as PD.
