Hi! Q and E do strafe (without turning to face the mouse cursor) in the default keyboard bindings, precisely for the case you describe :)

Duh, I feel so stupid now. I just assumed that the way they teach you in the tutorial is the only way to go, which is obviously a wrong assumption with such an elaborate game.

Thanks!

The combination of strafing, turning to face the mouse, firing towards the mouse, and the fact that the shields turn to face the mouse are all linked together is just too much.

Sometimes I want the ship to move sideways without having it turn. But then I can't shoot in whatever direction I want, whatever direction I choose to shoot at, it also turns the ship to face that direction.

In many cases it's ok, because the majority of guns face forward. But some cases like the high-tech battlecruiser the guns face sideways, and if I want to be able to shoot and strafe at the same time, my ship is forced to rotate as well.

It would be much nicer if you used Q/E to strafe instead of holding shift. Alternatively, holding shift should strafe but not turn the ship, and have another key for that.

Am I the only one?

Does anyone know where I can find the setting of reputation penalty when an expedition against your colony fails?

The event text actually says there will be no reputation penalty for engaging this fleet, but after the expedition fails, you lose 5 reputation. I'd like to disable that reputation loss.

General Discussion / Re: Paying tariffs in my own market?
« on: January 15, 2020, 12:11:33 AM »
I changed commerce to a structure in my game files because it is not useful enough to be an industry. I just use it to dump vendor trash when I come home since I am too lazy to head to the core to sell stuff. I don't think it has any significant use other than that. The +1 stability might matter if you don't take colony skills but alpha cores sort of make all of that pointless. I only build it on my home colony though, its not worth the upkeep on my other colonies.

Can you explain how to do that, please? I'd like to do it too.

This is weird, I didn't expect to pay 30% tariff in my own colony's market... Moreover there's not even a black market option there.

Am I missing something?

Nascent gravity wells for regular planets show up from hyperspace as little purple clouds, almost like a fledgling jump point, near a system. They're admittedly not easy to spot unless you know what you're looking for. If you mouse over one it should have a tooltip that pops up though.

Here's one. (The thing I've circled.)

Thanks! Never would have found them :)

General Discussion / What is the nascent gravity well?

I only just figured that the traverse jump skill is hidden behind the "next" button (duh!), and am now trying to figure out how to use it.

Using it to jump out of a system is easy but costly. But I still haven't figured out how I can use it to get into the system. I only see in hyperspace the gravity well of the star and sometimes a gas giant. But I can jump to those without using the skill, so what is the other part about?

I would like to bump this and request the option to see more than the 5 best buy/sell prices. Many times I'd prefer to pay a bit more for something that is nearby, but am unable to search for it.

General Discussion / My thoughts on combat
« on: January 12, 2020, 02:18:27 PM »
Hi, new player here.

On one hand, I like that the combat has a lot of options. But on the other hand, it's sometimes way way way too slow. If you're fighting against fast ships they can dog your entire fleet for several very boring minutes, which could ruin an otherwise good time with the game.

I would strongly recommend finding a way to prevent this from happening. It's a big hindrance to the fun of the game.
