Suggestions / Fix Cryosleeper and Hypershunt rounding errors
« on: October 14, 2022, 03:29:39 AM »
Currently, due to the displayed distance on the sector map being rounded to the nearest whole lightyear, you can have a situation where a system with a Cryosleeper or Hypershunt appears to be within range (displayed as being "10 Light-years" away) from your colony system, but is actually slightly further away than that, not allowing you to build a Cryorevival Facility/use the Hypershunt Tap.

An easy way to fix this issue would be to make the actual range of those effects be 10.5 lightyears, so that every system that on the map is displayed as 10 lightyears away would also be in range.

Seeing this honestly makes me often not take an exploration contract. It is just such a vastly larger search space than "Orbiting a jump point", "Orbiting a [type] planet" or "In a ring system/asteroid belt" that it just... isn't worth it time-wise, even with the neutrino detector.

Edit: Turns out the problem was not with Starsector at all, but occured whenever my laptop was using the high-performance GPU. Fortunately, a restart fixed it, so this thread can be closed.

A new problem just started to happen today (or at least, today is the first time I played Starsector and noticed it). While the game, or even the launcher, is open, my entire laptop (Macbook Pro 15" mid-2018) freezes briefly every few seconds.

I installed a clean install of Starsector, and the problem persists. When trying to create a new campaign save, this error message showed up:

There was no starsector.log, and in fact no logs folder at all. I suspect those two issues are linked - the game attempting to write to/create the log every few seconds causing the stuttering. The game is installed in the /users/[myusername]/applications folder, and is running as my user which definitely has permission to write to that folder. I would be greatful for any help in fixing this issue.

Reinstalling the game by, instead of downloading and unpacking straight into /Applications/, first downloading and unpacking into /Downloads/ and then moving the app into /Applications/ fixed the issue of the read-only filesystem. However, the stuttering is still there. But I do have a log - this log was taken from me opening the cleanly-installed game, starting a new campaign, and then exiting the game. The zipped log is now attached to this post.
