Modding / Messy Portrait Pack
« on: April 30, 2018, 11:16:29 AM »
Portrait pack that does not fit the game's aesthetic or lore at all. Has a few robots (set as male to balance out the numbers), a bunch of dudes with or without helmets and a fuckton of waifus. 449 portraits in total so far.

Special thanks to Helmut. I used his Portrait Pack mod as basis for this long ago.

That's good to hear. I try not to read up on it further, in case of spoilers. Playing it blind is so exciting! I wish the officers would interact with each other though, kinda like in Expeditions: Conquistador or Mount & Blade. All they do for now is boost stats and have extra missions of their own.

Oh, and I love my little starter boat. Wish I could keep her forever by simply upgrading it instead of trading it for something better as she seriously lacks the extra equipment slots. Not that I have the funds to do so, mind you. I've only explored 30% of the whole map and I've noticed that "port reports" don't really rake in a lot of money.

The random events while out in the sea helps to keep the monotony down too.

I'm playing Sunless Sea right now. It's pretty awesome but I don't know how repetitive the game will be once you die over and over again. It would need more stories and more variety especially in the beginning.

Speaking of sound options, I'd love it if the UI and game sound effects were separated in the volume options. I love hearing the sounds of explosions reverberating through my ship's hull minus the beep boops of the UI.

Hmm... I guess I can already do this by reducing the volume of the UI sound files though.

The vanilla game with its 5 or so systems and like 10 ships is extremely boring. Why not replace those gray words on the hyperspace map with like gray areas and when you fly there you will discover new systems and ships, mods have great ships and systems just use those

I thought the reason why the game is small was because it's just an alpha. Also, it's going to need a ton of optimizations first because having lots of systems tend to slow the game down to a crawl.

So, I was talking with FlashFrozen about how it would be so awesome if his mechs would transform into jets to move more quickly around the battlefield, Macross style... Next thing you know:

Yep, now you have tough slow shielded mechs that transform into fast unarmed fighters to catch their next target!

Inb4 this whole thing snowballs into pic related lol:

Lore, Fan Media & Fiction / Re: The Marenos Crisis (complete: 2015-01-31)

Thanks! I just finished it and it read like it was inspired by David Weber's On Basilisk Station. Heh, maybe dev can package this along with SS once it ships like how Egosoft packaged decent fanfictions back in X2: The Threat.

Here's a request: make an epub version! But that's only because I like reading stuff like this as far away as possible from my screen with Calibre lol. I just finished Ch. 1 and this seems like my cup of tea. Thanks for all the hard work.

PS. Soooo glad I got into this late and already finished. I don't know how you guys can handle the suspense of waiting. Waiting for SS to finish is bad enough lol.

If you really want it, you can still find it in the campaign with a little exploring :D

Yeah but it was still too OP so I edited the ship_data.csv and scaled its stats down to Banshee/Jackhammer standard. It's still hellishly deadly on a knife-fight though, especially if I don't stick it with PD weapons but at least now it needs to vent every few seconds of sustained fire and frequently gets its fore busted if I'm not careful instead of just having its paint scratched. Oh and I just noticed that large universal mounts can't fit smaller weapons unlike type specific large mounts. Is this a design oversight?

Still, it looks awesome and that's all I really wanted in a ship! Now about that jokeship...  ;)

Thanks for all the hard work, FlashFrozen. This and Diable Avionics are one of the few ship packages I can't go without no matter what.

Edit: It's a shame TheUnsung isn't available for being too OP. It looks awesome. Wish there was a lite-version comparable to the Banshee. Oh well, At least I'll have the Norn.

I'm waiting for it to finish AND have an offline play. If not, then I'll just go play a fixed X:Rebirth or its eventual and hopefully better successor. I try not to keep up with games until they are released so I don't know much but is Starcitizen's sandbox mode offline or is it strictly online multiplayer like Elite:Dangerous?

This was a concern in Egosoft's X games before. Despite the hustle and bustle of various factions trading and fighting, it still felt void of life. The way they solved it was by adding very descriptive mission information that also varied depending on whatever. It helped a bit.

In Freelancer, the game world felt alive because of the random irrelevant chatter you hear in the comms channel. I guess this was true for Homeworld too.

Hopefully we'll get something similar into the game in the future. Also, GodSailsAQueen, have you heard of The Mandate? It might be something you'd be interested in. But then I guess anyone who's into space games would be interested in it.

Suggestions / Re: Hire-able NPC Deliveries
« on: January 27, 2015, 01:09:41 PM »
Spoiler
That is one way.  I prefer to be self-sufficient.  That means taking over and holding an autofactory and as many blueprints as possible.  I want the NPCs to order from me, at least before I destroy them utterly and become the sole viable power in the sector.
[close]

I did this on Egosoft's X3:Terran Conflict. It's so satisfying to commit galactic genocide in that game considering how difficult it is to pull off, especially if you're not a savvy businessman.

So what happens is, you contact the delivery service...

Cool idea but doesn't this make acquiring said equipment and ships insanely easier just because you're a trillionaire? I mean technically, that could be true in the real world but still! I posit that the availability of said items to you be limited first by your standing with a faction. I mean, a Luddicite shouldn't just be able to order a glorious Tri-Tachyon battleship just because he's space version of Bill Gates. Yet if you really want to, you can pay exorbitant fees (they are risking their rep by delivering this to you and they probably need to bribe the officials who may want a background check on every dude who orders battlecruisers and such).

I don't think there should be a risk of it being hijacked in transit, I mean why would you pay enormous fees and taxes on the delivery of an expensive ship if it could get lost in the post, so to speak.

Or you could pay extra for insurance and extra armed escort! Nothing in the game should be risk-free.

let me propose an improvement...

Agreed on all points but what you're saying is totally different from what OP made. His idea is more of a delivery service while yours (at least for the ship part) is more of an information gathering service. Both could ideas could co-exist but I think the fact that you paid millions of credits to the delivery service means that the process of making or spawning the ship would be expedited to a degree.

I seriously doubt this would be implemented though. Sounds too much work for the dev for very little reward to the player just to circumvent a small problem.

PS. What about if you can order a particular ship on that faction's planet?
