General Discussion / Re: I'm sorry, but this is getting ridiculous.
« on: October 19, 2014, 11:51:36 AM »
I love how right before every release one of these threads pop up lol. I've had this game for a long time now and I usually lurk in the forums but like many have before me mentioned, (Starfarer) Starsector is a special game in that we've been free from any major bugs or unpolished releases. The only thing that may have been upsetting for some people was the introduction to CR but I personally think it was perfect as it made the game way less carebear and more in my opinion skill based forcing you to actually have to maintain your ships and not just deathballing everything.

All in all I'm happy with the time frame of development its not like Alex has a team of devs helping him program. Its him and David and I think 1 or 2 more people but they have lives too and just like with anything you have to maintain a balance between work and pleasure or your gonna burn out and nobody wants that. I think some people (as humans often do) are forgetting just the toll it takes on someone to develop such a complex game like Starsector mostly on a small team. Plus the fact that this particular update has so many different components and if we follow history Alex is a near perfectionist he's not gonna fudge this release if he can help it. Most of us have been here a long time and only payed 10$ for a game thats given us almost 3+ years of fun so I feel like appreciation is in order. All this extra emotion because someone is actually taking the time to deliver a great game is kind of misguided. Lets all just calm down the next update is max 2 weeks away so we'll all be happy.

I'd definitely like this as a feature but I feel like there would have to be limits on frigates and certain ships that have a peak time.  Another thing is I'd have to ask you is would then being retired and then redeployed restart the ships combat peak time. Maybe it shouldn't fully restart but start back up half of what it was when it left the battlefield to help maintain balance?

Mh, maybe it is specific to my playstile. It happens most often with Blackrock ships.
This it constantly happens to the faster ships such as the desinova and the nevermore. It seems to me the AI uses the Man Jets too often and can't get away in time. I kinda leaning to changing the damage from straight explosion to emp+kinetic. It would still give the feeling of a temporary crippling effect and at the same time not punish the player as much as it really discourages attacking ships like the atlas as they are so big and easy but yet dangerous if too close when they die.

General Discussion / Speculation on the next blog post
« on: February 24, 2014, 11:07:07 AM »
So what do you guys think the next major feature will be gameplay wise. Seeing as how I feel like Cr has been stabilized I'm hoping that the next major patch features officer or possibly industry. Personally officers would be amazing in that they would add a whole new level of personalization to the game and not just with ships but with troops too.

If an autosave feature creeps in, I want the option to disable it easily.  I am of the old school who only wants to save the game when I tell it to.
This^^ give the player options and its what will make everyone happy.

General Discussion / Re: Trident bombers seem grossly underpowered?
« on: February 06, 2014, 07:54:31 PM »
In my experience bombers are best used in conjunction with other ships. I'd never expect a bomber to get hits off a destroyer or higher unless it was a lucky hit or a certain situation. I always thought that we were supposed to use them to overwhelm ships already engaged with ships similar in size or that are outnumbered by your own ships. But in the case of tridents I think an extra wing plus an increase in speed of the atrop would possibly help to set it aside from the other bombers. Possibly give the trident a full 360 shield since it high tech ya know cause right now its just too slow to even hope to get close enough to do damage to most ships with decent PD.

I say the performance, that 5-10 extra fps felt like so much more
This and the new ships were it for me.

Maybe it could be introduce into the game as some form of low tech phase technology. Maybe pirates stole some from the Tri Techs and combined it with some cobbled together parts and out came that ship. Seeing as how theirs people (Me included) who like the way the ship looks and wouldn't mind it being introduced into the game in some way at least.

Suggestions / Re: Offline fighters should only deal damage once
« on: January 09, 2014, 10:10:11 PM »
Honestly I think these 2 points summed it up perfectly

It's an interesting case of Emergent Gameplay and I think it should be kept.

Tis what happens when you fly a light armored hi-tech ship that was designed for a support role.

Having to worry about having fighters crash and blow up on your ship hull should be part of the problem of playing as light armored ship.

You are trading armor and hull for armor and hull. Working as intended?
I mean not to jump on the bandwagon or anything but I mean when you really think about SF and as a whole I feel like the concept just fits the general balance of the game of the Hi tech vs mid-low tech range. You have your expensive powerful ships but they're expensive but not too expensive to the point the player should feel like their buying the best ship ingame. Just enough to show that the ship they're buying is better in "most" ways than the cheaper sturdier ships. Then you have your low tech ships are usually not gonna have good sheilds, speed, or OP but other times make it up for better armor or decent weapon point placement or some other way to make the ship worth buying and deploying until you can upgrade down the line. Maybe it could use some balancing though or possible more integration into the game as in make it an actual mechanic or somethin. Imo we should leave it as is but its not the end of the world if it changes honestly

People still use norton? and Welcome to the forums lol this is usually the case with certain AV software. Underground Games like these sometimes have files that are virtually no harm to your computer and get rated as some low level threat and your AV goes all "game over man!" on you.

Are we really trying to nerf engineless fighters? I feel like its something that prob doesn't happen that often and really will prob change on its own as the game develops

Mods / Re: [0.6.1a] Exerelin - Dynamic Sector and Faction War - v0.623
« on: December 22, 2013, 02:07:02 PM »
Been playing the mod for awhile now and recently redownloaded the new version but I seem to be only able to start as the vanilla factions. I know there are ways to include and exclude other factions but in the older version there were at least 6-8 other factions already included. Have they been taken out of the newest version due to balance issues or did I do something wrong?

I feel like these types of post are always inevitable but its great to see the community show support for SS . I can't lie though its proven to be well worth more anything else I've bought for 10.
