Modding / Ship System: Hull Degaussing

Hayo!

So. Last night I was watching a really bad movie called "The Philadelphia Experiment", and the subject of "degaussing" came up. Basically, degaussing was a process which rendered a warship "invisible" to mines that detected a ship by it's magnetic field, when the degaussing was turned on. This drew a ton of power though. I then thought; "Wouldn't this be awesome in Starfarer (Starsector, yes, I know)?!"

So basically, I was thinking that this would make a really cool ship system. For example, when it was turned on, all explosives such as mines and missiles (maybe not missiles? IDK) would bounce harmlessly off the hull. The downside, though, is that it would take down your shields and generate hard flux while active. when inactive, flux would dissipate like normal, and etc.

Please do keep in mind that the mechanics I just said are my idea of how it should be, and I would be glad to have a discussion with you all for changes and balancing and everything. Please do try to stick to constructive criticism and keep the discussion civilized and free of ass-hattery. Thanks!

And 5 minutes later, my self control broke and I clicked on it. And it didn't crash. And my sanity only melted a little bit. And while I was surfing your [luscious] sprites, I noticed something about the Voxel-Class:

And also, by coincidence, my next sprite's style was based off the Odessy-Class, and I was wondering; can I steal some pieces of the ships like the Bolter and the Voxel and other ships of the same style? Little pieces, mind you. Some of your ships have like the perfect pieces for what I had in mind :3

I can't wait to see what you will make next.

Ooh! Can you give me a link to the mod? :D I'd love to see it :D

Yes, it is a kitbash. I just updated my big post thing to say that it is a kitbash, so no-one gets confused :3

& nice sprite, but lower central part is a bit different blue than main ship

Yeah, that was kind of on purpose, because I thought it would accent it or whatever :3

I am currently working on another one (just started really), and I think it may very well be awesome :D
Not quite shure how big it is going to be tho :|

This is going to be where I put up all the ship sprites I make/draw/kitbash. Feel free to use any of these sprites in your mod, but please give credit where it is due, because I made them. Also, feel free to give constructive criticism and tips on how I can improve my overall skill level and style. Enjoy! :D

Up first, is the Longsword Suport Cruiser. My first ship sprite/kitbash/thing ever :3
So there is no confusion, yes, this one is a kitbash. You can totally tell too, with the medusa-sprite butt XD


Second up! Just kidding, it's coming soon ^_^

I will add more ships when I actually make more, because I work pretty slowly. And I'm a bit lazy.

Hey Avan, would it be okay with you if craftomega added this mod into Omega's Mishmash? I think that would definitely be awesome to have in there :D You should talk to him about it if yes :D :D

EDIT: I just realized... Is this mod actually for .53.1a? Or is it for a different version? Having the compatible Starfarer version number in the thread title would help :3 Just sayin'
Yep I forgot to add, it's only for 0.52.1a, 0.53.1a still not implemented :)
