Suggestions / Less ships in black markets, more from bar missions
« on: April 07, 2021, 11:47:10 AM »
Every now and then, you get bar encounters which are just, someone wants to sell you a ship under the table, or someone can help you steal a ship or whatever. These are cool. They're a lot cooler than "buying ships but from the red UI". I'd love to see that taken further. Maybe a new even where you can ask someone for a type of ship and they offer you a few options?

"I need a freighter, off the record. What can you do for me?" just feels more fun.

It would be less efficient, but meh, I feel like the flavour win would overcome that.

Suggestions / Toggle Move Slowly
« on: April 06, 2021, 03:50:38 PM »
Pretty straightforward I think. It would be nice to have some way to toggle on Move Slowly without having to hold the button down. Maybe any manual movement should instantly toggle it off too, to avoid the feel bad cases it might create otherwise (Moving slowly through a storm when suddenly Pathers, for instance.)

General Discussion / Independent infighting?
« on: December 04, 2015, 03:12:37 PM »
Edit: I can't figure out images on here. Screw it, have an imgur album.

Independents can fight each other now.

The new tooltip on the intel map are great. being able to see how many markets are in a system, and which factions they belong to, makes a lot of things easier. One thing that's missing is the ability to find military markets. It would be tremendously useful to be able to quickly find where you can use that new reputation rank you got.

I don't know if this is a bug or not, in all honesty, but it certainly feels wrong.

When you join a battle in progress, if your side retreats, after the battle is over, when you get back to the campaign screen, where you would normally decide between re-engaging, attempting to disengage, crash-mothballing your ships and all that, you can select an option to "Go back". Then, you can select to leave. This results in you leaving your ally to continue the fight (disengage, most likely) alone, while you leave the fight, without any risk to yourself, or taking any hits to your ship's CR.

The idea of running and leaving your allies behind is kind of neat, but feels unintended in this state. The choices become "Leave them to fend for themselves" and "Cover their retreat", which I don't think are awful choices, but aren't represented in the dialogue options leading to them.

I was on my merry way, hanging around in the Valhalla system, fighting pirates, collecting bounties, living the life. I turned off my transponder so I could sneak up on them easier, and since I was hanging around the Mimir Siphon platform, owned by the TT, who don't give a damn about my license plates, I figured there were no downsides.

I go to sell some hard earned booty, and the station tells me no one wants to talk to me because a TT patrol is after me. Being a good and honest citizen, I hang around and wait for the nice patrolmen to talk to me. Then a Hegemony patrol comes yell at me for having my transponder off. I turn it back on, the InquisitorsHegemony go away, I click the station again and everything is clear. I can trade.

Either the station message is off, and the TT are a bunch of cowards who won't trade with anyone being chased, or there's a bug, or the Hegemony hacked the TT's transponder into thinking they were TT. If so, I want in on that.

Suggestions / "You are here" indicator on the intel map
« on: November 25, 2015, 11:52:06 AM »
This came to mind after I played too long, got tired and couldn't remember which system I was in. Having a little blip on the intel map indicating where the player is would make things easier when planning trade routes, deciding on a bounty to pursue or whatever else.

Suggestions / Campaing UI keyboard shortcuts
« on: November 24, 2015, 07:03:09 PM »
It would be nice for the campaign screen keyboard shortcuts to all behave the same way as Tab does for the map. That is, pressing them on that screen would close the screen.

For example, pressing Tab brings up the map. Pressing Tab while on the map closes the map. Pressing F brings up the Fleet screen. Pressing F while on the Fleet screen does nothing (beside play the menu transition animation). I think the UI would be better if this behavior was more consistent.

Suggestions / Award experience for completing missions
« on: November 24, 2015, 06:45:54 PM »
It would be really nice if completing missions awarded the player with experience.

I feel dirty writing a post this short, but, yeah, there isn't much to say on this. It feels more like an oversight waiting to be corrected than a suggestion.

I was wondering if there was a better way of adding ship variants to fleets of a given faction than simple replacing the entire faction file. While doing that works, it kind of breaks apart once you have two mods trying to change that faction file.

Is there something like "faction.addVariant(shipRole, variant, weight)" to be be used in a script that I'm missing?

Suggestions / Small UI thing with Intel
« on: December 31, 2014, 10:56:06 AM »
Currently, on the campaign screen, when you receive a new intel, it shows up in the bottom-left corner of the screen, with a little icon and a short text description. If you want more details, you can open up the Intel screen proper and read it. These additional details are often essential to the intel having any meaning. For instance, knowing there's a trade disruption on Asharnu doesn't do much for you, but knowing what prices went up or down is valuable information. Similarly, knowing the Luddic Church put out a bounty on Jerkface Flowerpants isn't going to do much for you until you know where he's hiding.

This leads to players often wanting to read more on that new intel they've just gotten. Luckily, you can simply click on the intel's icon in the lower left corner to bring up the Intel screen immediately. Isn't life wonderful?

But then, the Intel screen comes up exactly like you left it before. If you were checking the supplies price before, that's what you'll see now. That's great for when you open the Intel screen directly, but when you get there from clicking on a specific intel message on your feed from the campaign screen, it would be nice to have the intel you clicked on already selected, instead of what you were looking at before.

Bug Reports & Support / NPC Smugglers carrying way over their cargo space
« on: December 29, 2014, 07:47:17 PM »
I've seen this happen several times. This most recent one happened just minutes ago. I found a lone Hound independent smuggler, and decided to attack it because I'm a bad person. After the battle, I was greeted with 462 supplies for the taking. In one Hound. That was not suffering any penalties to its burn speed before the battle.

This is the most extreme example I've seen, though I've had similar scenarios happen before.

Suggestions / Small UI Issue
« on: February 24, 2012, 05:05:57 PM »
I found out about this game not too long ago and I have to say I love it so far. There is however a small UI issue that's been bugging me. When on the campaign map screen thing, you can press F to open up the Fleet menu, R for Refit, I for Cargo and Tab for the map. And if you press Tab while the map is open, it closes. And if you press F, R or I while on their respective screens, it refreshes it instead of closing it. Being able to quickly hit F twice to check the status of repairs on my ships and close it without having to move my mouse all the way over to that X button would be nice.

Yeah, it's a small thing, but it's something that was annoying me, so I assume it's annoying others as well.
