Reminds be of the Ray-shark (can't remember its exact name, but it's very good at hiding itself and striking in a split second)
The shark you're thinking of is the Angel Shark http://www.arkive.org/angel-shark/squatina-squatina/image-G122813.html

Giving the Reaver it's maiden voyage when I'm caught with my pants down against a pirate carrier fleet, a volley of missiles are rushing towards me when I activate my shields... Wait where are my shields?!  :o OHMAHGAWD its a phase ship with pretty lights. It's more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. You just won the Internet.

The brawler isn't terrible anymore :o. Stick two maulers on it, activate the AAF and go to town.

Clutch, or otherwise epic, uses of ship systems. Share them with the class.

My most epic use of a ship system (so far) was phase skimming my wolf through an asteroid to avoid a cluster of salamanders that were about to bang my engines to paste.

I just tried the hadron accelerator ... lasers are for nerds and eye surgery, the IF is filled with big hairy chested men who throw big exploding sticks at each other .

Here at the IF research labs we have reached the pinnacle of pointy stick technology. What? You thought we were using something crazy like depleted unobtainium shells or harnessing raw power? Don't be absurd, such things are an impossibility, we just shoot big pointy sticks at the speed of light and the effect is similar to a high grade nuclear blast. How you might ask? None of your damn business is how; trust us, we're scientists.

The Interstellar Federation: Laser free since '83.

Oh great first we have "My Little Fortress" in DF, now we have "MLP: Tachyons Are Magic". That's how you know your game is big time, a pony mod. ::) Seriously though, this looks like a well designed and thought out mod so far not just "herp derp ponies in space lol". Good work so far and if your mod stays at the same quality it is now you may make a space brony (bronie?) out of me. :P

Uomoz, was there any follow-up question after asking if I was on Linux? I'm on Ubuntu.

I've been training in the mountains (just like Rocky IV) for a scenario like this. Incoming wall of text, but it WILL answer your questions.

Allow me to step in here, I have Ubuntu 12.04, (because I'm not a fossil, get that upgraded son) and if you read further back into the thread you'd see me asking a lot of the same questions. The answer is simple, "typos", "typos" as far as the eye can see, "typos" within "typos". A kind of "typo"-ception if you will. Why the " you might ask? Because windows doesn't really care if a word is capitalized or not, it's a bit of a grammar slob. Linux on the other hand is the exact opposite. It's a grammar Nazi and if you tell it to look for a file, lets call it Apples, it needs to be spelled capital A Apples because if it's spelled lowercase a apples linux will spit it out like poison. So, what linux is looking for is AntediluvianSpawnPoint.java (assuming you're running ver.14) and it will never find it. Why you might ask? Because its extension is spelled .JAVA not .java, .JAVA might as well be Chinese as far as linux is concerned. Rename the file extension to .java and it should work just fine.

Assuming that's the only problem you're having...

 I can't remember how many fixes I had to perform on the Antediluvian stuff to get it to fly straight. I know I had to rename the graphics folder from Antediluvians to antediluvians rename all the portraits, and then go into all the Ante ships hull files and fix their extensions I just can't remember if there was anything else.

have you ever tried fighting the Venture before you have more than a couple of destroyers? It doesn't end well.

Use the Trollfest, err I mean the Tempest. Circle it, and its mining blaster can't touch you. Flak cannons are worthless against anything bigger than space debris.

Just make sure to replace the gravitron with the heavy blaster or it would take an hour.

The poor thing can't even limp away from you, it'll just keep flaming out.

Antediluvians comes with a few linux/java syntax errors but at this point in time I'm prepared to just say F--- it I'll fix them myself, no point in wasting your time when I've normally fixed all the errors that I get by the time you get the message.

I'll still point out the ones I can't solve by myself; but, there's no point in me grumbling about the little *** on the forums if they aren't an issue for the majority of users and I can fix all of them in about 2 minutes.

I can send you all the fixes for the newest dev build if you would like me to, but if not ... meh. I'll still be thankful that you take the time out of your day to make such a wonderful compilation and continue to make it better every day. ;)

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who got that WH40k vibe from this game. That vibe is a GOOD vibe as far as I'm concerned.

@Aust
WALL OF TEXT INCOMING
If you go and read the lore corner thread Ivaylo has stated that humanity isn't actually "researching" or improving their technology, they're rediscovering it. They don't have the technical know-how to improve their technology past what the auto-factories can manufacture for them. That's why any new technology that is rediscovered is such a big deal. If the auto factory (assuming there is only one) that produced Onslaughts was shut down due to decay or sabotage there would cease to be any new Onslaughts being built because humanity has lost the knowledge on how to build a new factory and even if they did find the blueprints for a new facility they would still most likely have to find a new set of blueprints for an Onslaught.

TL;DR We're a bunch of stupid monkeys trying to keep the night light on for as long as we can before the sector is eventually plunged into darkness.

@Billy
You could treat field repair as essentially just that. Field repair is a stop gap so that your ship doesn't blow up when an asteroid the size of a walnut hits it, and it's performance would suffer because of it because your not solving the problem, your simply slowing it down. Repairing your ship in an orbital station on the other hand would give you the tools necessary to perform true maintenance on your ships in order to bring them back to 100%. Kinda like comparing a band-aid to stitches.

High-tech is old? alright then...

The Paragon is the most technologically advanced ship ever designed (that we know of) and it's at least 206 years old. So yes high-tech is old, every ship in the game is old.

LOL Who uses the Pargon or the Onslaught?
Using an Onslaught with four torpedo launchers on the back is probably the most fun I have in this game. Hitting ships with torpedoes is one of the most satisfying things in this game IMO, and once you get good at it its just epic.
Compared to the Paragon the Onslaught is a joke and a bad one at that...
The Paragon is too busy eating torpedo death from my Onslaught to fire anything. Those Paragon shields may be nice, but they present a massive target.

If there was multiplayer in SF I would make you eat those words friend. Torpedoes (I assume you speak of the Reaper?) fire at about the speed of smell and anything faster than a stump can dodge them if they're not trying to dry hump you like most capital ships do. Capital Ships want free hugs and I'm more than happy to hug them with hot pew pew filled death.
