Suggestions / Squads

I'm not sure if this has already been suggested (I mostly just check the blog to see if there is a new update and don't peruse the forums often); however, I think a squad system would be pretty cool. By squad I mean at the fleet screen you can assign certain ships to miniature squads (e.g. 2 lashers 1 talon 1 broadsword in alpha squad, 1 dominator 2 hounds 1 lasher 3 talon in beta squad, and 1 hyperion 2 tempest 2 xyhpos in charlie squad.) This would allow you to group ships according to how you want to use them and would make micromanaging easier. So I could make alpha squad (my quick ships [possibly with emp?]) move to the outer edge of the map while beta squad (the main fleet) engaged the enemy head on and charlie captured objectives; I could then have alpha close around behind the enemy and emp all the things.
Just something to think about. :P

I mean, I tried to work on one when I first started playing Starfarer but there weren't many quality sprites that I could find, and I wasn't recieving a lot of help.

The Geneforge series is to this date one of my favorite series of games of all time  ;D

I, for one, am really excited for this progression system to be implemented into the game. I think much of the fun in games is specializing in a certain type of skills, as it adds to roleplaying (which in turn adds a lot to replayability as well). In skyrim I made my early levels focus on archery because I wanted my character to be a sneaky Imperial (rogue) officer-type person; however, after you reach the point where you have every single skill tree all the way up to 100 the game becomes too easy and the roleplaying element is destroyed.
That said I can't wait to make a single ship fleet super fighter mercenary :)
P.S. I also think the synergy loop idea is really cool and innovative (at least I haven't seen a skill tree like it in any other game).

I would have liked to help out with this more, but I have so much stuff i have to do I never had the time.

I just don't see how an individual could feel that something in a progressive rpg is overpowered.
In my mind it's just another part of the progression curve (you save up a lot of money from quests/trading to finally buy the super-powerful ship of your dreams).

I would prefer it if all ships are balanced against each other. Because then, the different ships are side-grades to each other, and I can pick a ship for it's unique arrangement of weapons and systems, rather than because it's the best at everything.


Some ships should be slightly more powerful than others.

Also as a LoL player I really enjoyed this video :D

I have noticed the Phase cruiser (I can't currently remember it's name) stayed in phase while i was firing an auto cannon at it and stayed phased up until it was about to overload, it then came out of phase, shot at me with the pulse lasers (maybe 2 or 3 times) then tried to go phase again and overloaded.
I don't think the ai properly takes the damage of weapons being fired at it into account when deciding when to phase.

This is a (I guess game?) I have seen on other forums; however, the other forums have a massive amount of people on them and generally no one knows eachother.
So the game(?) is simple, just quote someone else's name and say how often you see them on the forums and what you remember them by.
For instance I see "UpgradeCap" in a ton of threads and he seems to be really active with this game and started some mod that starts with a "C" (I can't remember the whole name :P).

 I don't know if this has been asked before (or even actually done already - I have been preoccupied in other things for the past few months) but I think a time-lapse of you drawing a ship would be really cool to watch, and informative for the modding scene.
 I understand you are very busy but if you find the time I think this could be a cool look into what goes through your mind while spriting.
