Balance. Balance. Balance.

The balance is more than "slightly" unbalanced as claimed int he #1 post. The very first weapon from this mod that I came across I had to immediately "personally ban".

This would hit above it's weight class even if it was upsized to medium with no other change. Even the 10 OP cost to mount is probably on the low end. It just feels "high" because it's on a small weapon, but I should reasonably be spending more than 10 OP on this even as a medium sized gun with no other changes.

Then just a little later, another insta-ban appeared.

Now, if these were some uber rare item I would only expect to find 1-2 of out in the far corners of lategame content, fine. But these were found within an hour or so on a fresh new run where I'm fielding mostly scavenged frigates, 3 destroyers, and a single cruiser. The largest fights I've taken on are a couple of 40k-50k bounties. I've even found multiple mini minotaur cannons for sale on multiple planets.

I see multiple mentions of rebalancing akin to "Ship stats rebalance against base game weapons and other ships" from several years ago. I don't what methodology you have used to assess balance, but whatever it is, it is way waaay off.

I get that balance can be hard to get right, especially without feedback, so I'm adding my own 2c with this post, as I believe poor balance can ruin a faction mod and all the cool stuff it tries to bring to the table. Yours is a prime example.

For a start on the two above examples, maybe cut the dps and flux cost in half, cut the proj speed in half, double the spread, lower range by something like 150-250, and then try to come up with a good argument for thesse weapons dealing energy damage, and if you can't come up with one, change them to kin or exp. They're ballistic, after all. If you do ALL of that, then yeah maybe you can lower the OP costs by one or a few points as well.

That would be a start. Don't let a couple wacky numbers ruin all your hard work and cool designs.

I'll be disabling this mod going forward, but maybe come back to it later if the glaring balance issues are taken care of.

Thanks for the reply, I would see what I can do about the glaring issues with weapon balancing. But high chance i'll make a patch or something optional to maintain its stats, but the main version will have the changes.

As I do like the OPness of the original weapons, even though it is glaringly overkill and very unbalanced. As I usually use it vs [REDACTED]

But thanks for the reply! Will try to find a way to balance or either nerf weapon damage, ordinance points, or any other stats.

Fixes 2 major mod compatibility bugs

  • FIXED: Whenever CC is enabled, a Null Pointer Exception error with CTD appears (Caused when CC is enabled, it also enables 2 other mod compatibilities with UnknownSkies)
  • FIXED: Error that returns the player back to the main menu while creating the galaxy loading screen. Issues caused by unfinished story quest I am planning to do that is active in my mod. (This story quest will be made as a separate mod or added later on)

Yes its the CC mod, everything works like a dream after disabling it.

Not a big loss for me, I just use it to spawn in the Halbmund if I cant find it after the first Blackholes search.
Hyperion systems is a higher priority for me.

Thank you guys so much for your help, never even thought about that mod. now I can play again!

P.S for the love of god man please never quit updating this mod, its just to immersive (at leased for me) to play without it.

This should fix the CC issue, found the cause why (because one part of my code found you have CC installed) but I didnt notice that it also activates the part of my code that enables UnknownSkies by Tartiflette mod compatibility. It tries to find the specific planet terrain but cannot, because UnknownSkies is not installed in your mod lists.

This should fix the issue now, fully removed all CC codes and changed the specific code about UnknownSkies and other mods that ends up activating when CC is active.

Or you can also install UnknownSkies as well, it should also fix the issue (it just adds a bunch of textures for planets and stars)

It pertains to terrain rather than other issues, hmm ill see what is the main issue. Thanks for the replies, also I am not abandoning it just need to re-align my IRL life to more important stuff currently

Found the issue haha, another mistake on my part. coding while half asleep in the early morning, simple fix should be
its calling CC but what it should be calling is UnknownSkies.

Whenever CC is installed, because I copied a line of code where when CC is enabled it thinks UnknownSkies is also enabled. My mistake!  ;D

is it the same CTD as Jason? can you send me the error message.

I maybe its a multiple mod issue, or a different mod.

If you unselect my mod does the CTD goes away?

I've been having the same problem as Jason, and I narrowed it down to being something with Lazy Wizard's Console Commands, strangely enough.

I've also noticed it causes weird conflicts with a few other of my mods, namely a few ship mods, but rather annoyingly it conflicts with Fleet Size by DP and Lazy Wizard's Autosave

Also unfortunately the fix you provided to Jason did not fix that crash issue. I had just tried it with these. While the Console Command is the only one to cause a CTD, the other two cause save errors that boot you back to the main menu when trying to create a character.

I think I kinda knew the issue, I have a hidden feature in the mod (that uses the Console Commands mod) that I should have removed in the public releases.

It is some sort of a cheat to get all items for planet buildings (to increase their capabilities incl. all AI cores) for both testing and cheat gameplay.

Issue I forgot to remove it.

Also I have tested the mod with the 2 other mods, Fleet Size and Autosave. Yes there was a character creation bug, while it is loading the game. I have removed the issue code (codes designed for the story/lore quest for the mod, ill just make the story part a separate mod for the moment)

Test the patched version here if it works

Just removed the codes that is connected to the conflict mods, Thanks for the replies!

Will publish the next Hotfix after any good results!

Also can I know if you are running Starsector an older version of the game, the latest patch is designed for v0.96a.

ah yes, I keep forgetting to disable it on public release. I'll just edit the latest version without the max colony size.

I am the one whom uses the max colony size on my gameplays, sorry for the inconvenience

Hi, did you purposely make all the ships in this mod has very low burn level? I'm unsure the reasoning behind it.

I was half-asleep when I was making the ship_data.csv file, yep thanks for noticing (I haven't noticed it or rechecked it after the fact). Smaller ships should have higher max burn rate than larger ships.

Though, I did decide to make phase ships having higher burn rate than non-phase ships.

EDIT: Wait, in the stats of vanilla ships "max burn rate" smaller ships have higher burn rate than larger ships (and the largest ones, cruiser to battlecruiser level is slow as heck)
