This is a WIP list of (eventually) all the ships, weapons, stars, etc. in Starsector and its various mods, intended to reduce name overlaps. If you want to look up the list to make sure your names don't match those of another mod, or you can't remember which mod had the So-and-so Battleship, you've come to the right place!

Currently includes: Faction names, ships, weapons, hullmods, shipsystems, stellar objects, missions, skin designations

This documentation needs your help! If you're a modder, just jump in and add your stuff when you have the time. If you see an error, feel free to correct it. The spreadsheet is open to all.
Once it's reasonably complete, I'll plan to reissue it in .xls form with proper sorting functions. I lied, it will never be complete and never be a spreadsheet

Credit goes to MesoTroniK for coming up with the idea, and all the modders who entered details for their stuff.

All Crystanite names and information is now in there. I decided to use the full names of the weapons instead of the abbrevations i usually use. I also added the suffix "(Pirates)" when it was a Crystanite Pirates exclusive, "(Mission Only)" if it is not available in the campaign, and "(Unimplemented)" if it is currently not in-game.

On another note; nice list you got going. The names add up pretty fast.

Put in my Roider Union stuff. Should we put in planned ships/stations/etc.?

Partially added some stuff in. Honestly I haven't decided on a lot of the new stuff's names/final functions yet. Sorry for being such a tease lol.

Why don't just divide namespace by prefixes and forget about "name overlaps" problem? Like:

dev.mod.ship
dev.mod.faction.ship
dev.mod.item
etc.

Take a lesson from Java packages naming conventions.

Everyone already uses prefixes for everything and sticks assets in named folders.  This is for display purposes; the user won't appreciate if there are six Medusas, all different.

Can I request the Idoneus Citadel Exiles (ICE) be added into the list?

It'll make it easier for people to find it and not create another name of the same acronym.

The Vass (in development [could be released tomorrow if i wasn't lazy]) now has their ships, weapons, hullmods and ship systems added to the list.

I thought i'd check up on my old stuff before i do anything new (the vass has spent the last 6-8 months in development hell).

My recent (first) mod "The Silent Armada" has had it's current ship/weapon/etc. loadout added to the spreadsheet for future reference.

Damn. @Soren We're about to find out we both have ships called "Wanderer".  :(

I haven't updated The Silent Armada on the spreadsheet yet, so you can bagsie that if you like. Besides, your mod came out before mine. XD I'll come up with another idea.

EDIT: Uhh, apparently there's already a "Wanderer" in the Crystanite mod.  :-\ Might want to look at that too @Soren...

Reserved names for my upcoming mod (faction labeled as"Arkgneisis") If anyone wishes to use the names reserved, and can officially release before me, I will willingly relinquish them.

Everything I thought was noteworthy from Arsenal Expansion is now on the list. If someone wants to use a name I'm using, ask me and I can change it if your use is more important.

It seems as though the hyperlinks on the first post are incorrect: for example, SCY Nation hyperlinks to the AI War(Spire) mod.

Yeah I did, and from what I can see, the mod index shows the same thing. Couldn't you have just told me what the difference is, I can't ask questions here anymore dang.

Sounds to me that you only looked at the first sheet and not the seven others pages that are the actual reason this doc exist.

Seems like the vanilla entries should include the various skin names? By my count, it would add 32 lines to the existing 104.

Might I suggest a page that's just for mod names and authors? As it is, there's nowhere to put your name or the name of your mod unless you've made a faction.

Hmm I think any sort of list intended as documentation for modders should really go on the wiki rather than the spreadsheet.
Still, I've tossed up a sheet with some vanilla tags (the blueprint ones in particular, but also a bunch of others that affect various behaviors).

For the vanilla tags, yeah, but mods can add any tags they want too. It is nice to watch for overlap in that regard.

Due to a certain "thing" that arose on the Discord server a couple of weeks back, I've drafted some proposed guidelines for reserving of names in the spreadsheet (using ideas from Timid):

- If your mod isn't released yet, consider adding contact info to the first sheet with the mod and author names (Discord username or email will be fine). This means that others who might want to use a reserved name can contact you about it.
- If someone wants to use a name in a mod that has not been released or has been inactive for some time, and can demonstrate a good-faith effort to contact the other author, they can use the name. (In line with point 1, authors who do not provide contact info while having unreleased mods must consider themselves more likely to lose the names involved.)
- There will be a general assumption that names for a mod that has not been in circulation for appreciable periods of time loses the strength of its claim to those names, doubly so if the mod has never been released.

These guidelines are fundamentally voluntary (certainly neither I nor Alex are going to enforce rules on name conflicts), but they should set better expectations to avoid squabbling.
