If in 3D. And different. And almost nothing like StarSector. Ish.

Looked at that earlier.
I think that it's suffering from a lot of kitchen-sink problems; is it a game about space combat, or a FPS? Right now it looks like it's a fairly basic, if pretty, space combat game, with a FPS being tacked on to it for no apparent reason.
I have the same issues with Star Citizen; it basically means building two games with two very different balance profiles and worse yet, trying to make them both relevant to one another. I don't think that's an efficient use of limited resources.

mandate? where does mandate have FPS elements?
All I've seen so far are tactical fleet action and tile based boarding......
EDIT: also, off topic discussions?

Oh this is that game they released a tech preview for, where you could build & destroy a test ship using asteroids, lasers & stuff.
Had neat shield effects...
The direction they're going with it definitely looks interesting

@gunnyfreak: They aren't being really specific (http://www.mandategame.com/your-ship) about how boarding will work, probably because they don't really know yet, but they've gotten a chunk of art done and it's not the kind of art you'd really do for overhead POVs (http://ships.mandategame.com/images/Hallway.jpg).
If that means some sort of X-COM-ish play will eventually emerge, fine, but that's once again, basically another game entirely.
Either way, it's one of those decisions that will be really hard to make work out, design-wise. We'll see :)

I am sooo looking forward to this game. pretty much backed it on Kickstarter as soon as I saw it.

ok, not quite tile based boarding as I remembered, but still an overhead tactical thing

The fleet combat reminds me a little of nexus: Jupiter incident.
For a game that was salvaged from the wreckage of imperium galactic 3, it was pretty damn good, though could have been so much more.
Here's hoping Mandate does it better.

I have never ever ever said the following ever before: Please take my money! Gimme! Gimme! Gimmeeee! O_o
And that collector's edition mothership statue. I'd kill for it. :o Pretty much have to kill for it, because I can't afford luxuries at the moment. ;_;

I would be curious when it comes to system requirements. I can't play it if it demands too much of what my laptop/desktop can do.

That's basically how I feel about every game... Haha...
The Mandate looks really, really cool. It's exactly the kind of game that I'm looking for, part of the reason why I bought Starsector in the first place.
