Title: What game should I get?
Post by: dogboy123 on February 23, 2014, 03:28:15 PM
I recently got myself actual gaming PC, and I've been wanting to try out some games. Particularly FPS-TPS since I've got my space combat fix with X3, StarSector and others. If you have experience with one or more of these games, and could recommend them, then go ahead. :)

Eh, woops, voted Far Cry 3 when I wanted Battlefield 3/4.  The BF3/4 games are excellent.  BF3 has most of it's bugs ironed out, but really only has a lot of content if you get the DLCs.  BF4 has a ton of content, but it's rather buggy right now, but I'm sure it'll get better.  It's also got the Naval Strike DLC coming up, which has a new gamemode from BF 2142, Titan mode.  I'm excited about that one. :D

Get far cry 3. Its realy good and i think is better than the other choices, due to good mechanics, outright fun and is actually a complete game. I dont mind Uplay that comes as drm tho. Dont know why everyone is still bitching about it.
Wait for a sale on steam and you can get it for about 10 bucks.

Holy crap, they're bringing Titan mode back? It was so fun in 2142.

Hands down far cry 3, it's a great overall experience that is polished to the highest degree. The storyline is compelling, but is really brought to the next level by real actors - especially Vaas. Far cry 3 single player is one game play experience you must enjoy I your lifetime...and no I'm not talking about Citra's bewbs, there are some really trippy hallucination sequences that your character experiences on his descent into madness as he experiences the side effects of various drugs from plants.

And then there is just how damn beautiful the island is, I remember thinking how amazing Far Cry 1 was when it came out, it's that level of amazement all over again.

Then there is the co-op campaign, if you can find some friends to join you it is a thoroughly enjoyable storyline of its own that will give you many more hours of enjoyment.

After you've finished FC3 you may feel like a bit more of the excellent FC3 combat system, luckily there is Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.  If you were were born in the 70s or 80s you'll get the references in this game, and understand why it is the way it is. Otherwise you might just not get why it is hilarious to ride a dinosaur mounted with a laser beam, who robotically chants "genocide is fun!".

And FC3 blood dragon is less than $20

While I do not know most of games (know means "played them eoungh to have solid opinion), I can discourage You from Dead Island. Do not get me wrong - it is decent game. Really good. Even great. But unfortunatly it is kind of monothematical and get's repetitive afther some time. Moreover by it's look one will hope for more than it provides. I expected some kind of sandbox/survival game, where player must not only fight of zombies but also worry about finding shelter, protecting it and taking care about food and water. But nope - none of those. Insted You get "one man army" character and exterminates hundreds of enemies. Also leveling up system is in my opinion done very poorly - just like in entire Diablo :/ As You level up, so does your enemies. Question - so why level up at all?
But still, if You are looking for game in which using melee weapons is most important, and where you are fighting of lot's of enemies - it is great game.

I will vote for Far Cry 3 :) Think it is the best of them. :)

Well...Depends really

The games you mentionned in your poll are not bad but then again when it comes to that I suppose its not all you could go for

Espescially on PC there's room for choice, for all kinds of games and add to that mods changing the content of it and so on

Some games not listed here that are good are

Fallout 3 new vegas
Skyrim (with mods espescially)
Saints Row series
Guns of Icarus online (first person airship crewing)

and some few others I don't remember the name of right now

Maybe you'd like AirMech wich is a free-to-play game allowing for single player, coop and VS games...

Payday 2 is awesome.

having played all of these except STALKER and GTA, I'd say farcry 3

BF3 and 4 got old for me, fast. and when I played them they were too buggy to enjoy (though they might have changed since then)

payday 2 is good, but unless you have friends to play with it's just not that fun imo

SE alpha is fun but has rather limited content atm (hey, alpha, what do ya expect, right?), and ofc the whole deal with no guarantee they'll finish it etc.etc

I hate Farcry 3, especially compared to the other games in the series. The crafting was unimpressive, and the AI was a downgrade. I really enjoyed that weird cyberpunk spinoff though. That was neat.

STALKER is a great alternative (open world, quests, killing scary russians and creepy monsters and animals), but I'd say it's slightly niche. It's a pretty hardcore game, with a bit of a learning curve, but totally worth it. Save LOTS though.

Hmm, I had a blast playing Dead Island, over and over again. The amount of (home-made) weapons you can use on zombies (and the occasional humans) made this game to never grow old for me.
Even after finishing the game multiple times, I often found myself coming back just for some creative zombie killing R&R.
You'll have to like killing zombies ofcourse.

Far Cry 3, a good game, but in my opinion it has more repetitiveness in it than Dead Island. Yay, another radio tower to climb into. Hourray, another small enemy encampment to take over.
After I finished this game I didn't feel the urge to play it again, since there's nothing to do afterwards.
It was still a very entertaining game though, and worth it to at least play through the story. The Kick the Hornet's Nest mission is in my top ten of best missions ever. x)

Edit: The Saints Row games are pretty hilarious, judging from youtube videos. Might want to check those out too.
I've yet to play any of them myself though.

I jumped on the Saints Row wagon when number 2 came out, and enjoyed it enough to get Saints Row 3 and 4.

The Saints Row franchise is like what the old GTA(2D version) used to be - FUN. It's not trying to imitate real life or real crime, it's trying to imitate balls to the walls WTF?! Laughing out loud ear to ear grinning responses.

I have to say though that the formula can be a bit too repetitive and grindy if you absolutely positively want to get 100% completion every mission, but it is still fun.

Saints row doesn't care that it is over the top, in your face, rude, vulgar and a bit of a guilty pleasure. But it is sure a lot more fun than GTA4 where you had your friends calling you every 5 minutes because they were lonely and depressed. No, in Saints Row you call your friends to fight by your side, and it's fun to hear their little conversations, reunions and dialogues.

Saints row 2 and 3 are probably my favourites, the saints row 4 has a solid campaign but the actual missions and map are pretty much the same from saints row 3, so it could have been DLC, on the other hand it's a decent length campaign and it concludes the series.

Also, if anyone has XBL Gold and wants to check out SR 3, it is free right now

I own SR 2 and 3, I got 4 last week and I think it's the best once yet, so much fun.
