I noticed a severe lack of Kill La Kill (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=15336). It was in there for only 2 short scenes (one of the scissor blade, the other where the kids try to attack Ryuko).
Kill La Kill makes an entire episode about their way to school, without it being boring. Admittedly, it does involve an armored car with an extendable chain gun.
So overall, it might be too intense for some people, but what do you expect when you take a large part of the group that worked on Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann? These guys know how to turn it up beyond 11.

That video seems to not be the original. The orignial (for youtube) is  this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHLRSHFjuzw)
It has the names of the songs ( Xx-The Intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ktYpaGVUe0) , then The Temper Trap-Love Lost (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEtRQRx3kgA) and then  The Vaccines-If you Wanna (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPT-KUQqWYg)) as well as the names of each anime in the scenes they come in.

 On a side note, here's the 2012 one  here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaOJyhf94K4) .

EDIT: if someone could tell me the secret to formatting hyperlinks in words (for this forum), then please do so.
EDITEDIT: Ninja'd just as I corrected it :/
EDITEDITEDIT: It seems none of the links actually work. And I've no idea why ???

As a matter of fact I do like to watch anime, and feel like sharing with You one, exeptional title. But first - worlds of warrnings!

First of all it is old stuff. Yes, from times when second in command on space ship is not teenage sexy girl. So if one can not live without those - it will be not Your cup of tea. Also do not expect it to be good quality from graphical standard - first epizodes were made in 1982... So yeah... No good quality video if compared to modern titles like outstanding "Titan Attack" or even better (in my opinion) "Broken Blade"/"Breake Blade".

Second, and moreover at the same time - it is very serious anime. Comic situations are rare, or occasional at best. For some people it will be advantage - for others disadvantage. Personally I think it is positive aspect of it. But if You like to watch anime which are funny and have hi comedy value, stay away from this - not Your cup of tea, unless You want to try something diffrent than comedy :)

Third thing... It is 110 episodes long. Each episode is like 24 minutes long. So in comparison to most anime - this one should be considered to be long. Of course it may not outclass in that aspect titles like "Naruto" or "Bleach" or "Bold and Beautiful"... Wait - that last is not anime ;) So if You hope to watch something good, but also short - sorry, not Your cup of tea again :)

The title of anime is "Legend of the Galactic Heroes".

I know - title is kind of lame... But anime is not - trust me on that one :) Here You can read some english review of it:
http://www.themanime.org/viewreview.php?id=494

Here You can find it:
http://kissanime.com/Anime/Legend-of-the-Galactic-Heroes
and if some episodes do not work, than try on this one:
http://animeseed.com/index.php/anime-pages/legend-of-the-galactic-heroes/
Second page have a bit worse quality of videos (I think...) and have only first 49 episodes.

I hope that You will like it, providing that anyone will decide to watch it ;)

I love old-style animes ala Blue Gender in both artstyle and the way they approach themes more directly without needing to have a weird harem-situation.. and i have had Legend of the Galactic Heroes on my list for ages. Meh, you know what, putting it to download, gonna see it this weekend. Thanks for the prod.

Oh, and to also contribute something. Ghost In The Shell, both StandAloneComplex series and the first movie (not hot on the second one, went too Ergo Proxy with it). Am waiting for them to finalise Arise and see it back to back.

Speaking of LotGH, I still have 3 episodes left to watch... Stopped there since I somehow didn't have the 3 last episodes (torrent lied to me?! had since early 2000's). I downloaded the rest ages ago and I still haven't pulled myself to watch the last ones.

Yang Wan Lee and.... Damn, I already forgotten the others names... Lohenheim? Lohengreim? What was the fortress named again... Isoldegrimm? -.-" I know it when I see the name :P Good plot and cliffhangers. Definitely top 1 even though I haven't finished it yet >_>

I don't keep a track of anime lists, don't hate me for it. I feel that Haruhi series is still among my top... 30 despite the infamous, infinite eight episodes of repeats which Yuki somehow kept her sanity. My head blew off when I saw the movie (Yuki~~<3), great soundtrack and it tied it smooth with all the episodes, mind blown!

Everyone should have seen this AMV! (spoilers!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhJk0rVa6qo

Looking at my playlist in youtube... over 70% of AMV works has been removed... And my fav AMV maker was deleted too :( I was naive thinking that works would like stay forever in youtube, I should have downloaded the videos. Now I only get to enjoy the uber low quality in a foreign video site. Understandable if you don't want to visit unknown sites. All works by same author. Kara no Kyoukai, so probably spoilers?

Animes from japan have subtitles because people from english speaking countries want to understand what the characters are saying, so other people who know japanese subtitle them. But this is a video from japan and the uploader understands japanese and doesnt care about people from other countries,so he doesnt subtitle the video

In any case, does anyone know what song this is? I used to listen to it all the time, and I just can't recall where I heard it from. I'm pretty sure it was featured in anime? I know it's from an artist I know and used to listen to, but... memory has slipped my mind.

The manga is a lot better and I would recommend reading it over watching it.

But yeah its a depressing as balls anime...though I hated the super long speeches.

I am not entirely sure what people think is so special about Attack on Titans. It's all over the place!

I watched the whole thing: No surprises, flat characters, not enough gore to put it into that genre, no humor at all (which is really weird in an anime imo) but I still had to watch it to the end and even that was not satisfying in any way.

If there is one thing that is cool it is the fights but they are too few.

Better alternatives are:
-Fate Stay Night and it's prequel ... uhm Fate zero or how was it called? Prequel is better than original imo
-Kill la Kill (has nothing in common, i just like it)
-Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (my absolute favourite of all time, nothing can beat this)
-FLCL (too short but it's insanity in a can, love it!)

I could possibly mention many more but these are guaranteed to get you some fun.

I can vouch for these two. The FATE series is awesome, even their PSP game and if you love mechs, you will most likely love Gurren Lagann!

Well, of course. We are speaking of ufotable here. Studio Deen just pales in comparison.

Low quality PV2:

As for Mahouka, I just hope it will be better than SAO. Its pacing should well fit for anime, given how the manga captures the LN feelings. SAO was unfortunate that was too loyal to LN. I myself wished that it had fillers with every other floor, given the context.

I wouldn't say BSP was "boring" or "dull" but it did definitely have a "methodical pace". Some people like or dislike that stuff.

I saw RWBY pop up and I believe the previews of it was posted here many pages ago. It isn't quite Anime but it is still fun to watch

Although not new work, Kemono no Souja Erin is a wonderful slice-of-life-ish story driven anime which isn't short, 50 episodes! The start will be very slow (compared to others) as it introduces the world and characters, but picks up its pace and you'll be drawn into its world.

This show i can some up in two words: THE FEELS!!! It is an awesome series, especially once it gets going

The blurb for the series: In the war against neighboring countries, the Grand Duke’s warriors use dragon-like beasts called Touda as weapons. Touda are admired across the nation and villages take great pride in breeding them. Erin lives in one such village with her mother, Soyon, who is the best beastinarian in the country. However, life in the village is not so straightforward: Soyon is also an Ariyo, a woman of the Mist People - a race that is feared by humans for its mystical abilities. So that she and Erin can stay in the village, Soyon must flawlessly fulfill her duty capturing and disciplining the Touda; but while Erin wants nothing more than to become a beastinarian, she also feels sorry for the Touda and recognizes that there’s far more to them than meets the eye. Can Erin ever become an ordinary beastinarian when her deepest instincts tell her there is a better way to interact with the Touda? (Anime-Planet)

I've recently grown tired of high school protagonists, there are almost same settings everywhere nowadays. Sword Art Online, Mahouka, Aldnoah Zero etc. "Little" kids gets to decide the outcome of everything. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of greatly executed animes with those settings. But these recent releases... Where are the seinen animes?  ???

So I set a bar of what anime to watch; main protagonist have to be atleast 20 years old. You know what, there's very few I can think of. Out of top of my head:

Fate/Zero, Hellsing, Mushishi, Usagi Drops, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Legend of Galactic Heroes and very few (old) gundam shows.

Can you recommend me some animes which meets this "basic" criteria? I won't be picky so I'll accept all genres. I get the feeling that there are few (awesome) animes with 20~ year old protagonist. I just can't think of any at this moment.

Despite my complaints, I'm waiting for this. Certainly worth the watch.

Zankyou No Terror ( ymmv kinda still teeny but they behave like death note characters...ish )

If you're putting off Aldnoah Zero for being a "high school protagonist" setting, you'd be wrong.

They only part of their "school" they show is the training area where they fire off training rounds since they're being trained as soldiers. And that doesn't even last for the entire episode.

While not clearly defined, in the end I said this to conclude my issue of highschool settings.

So I set a bar of what anime to watch; main protagonist have to be atleast 20 years old.

While you're correct that it doesn't last more than an episode, in the end they still started as school kids that gets thrown around to fit them in other genre. It could have been perfectly done with an adult, and it still wouldn't miss the "charm" people think only school graders has. It would be more than enough to feel the seriousness the anime is trying to convey. In the end it's just another modern Gundam.

I seem to recognize your avatar from somewhere... Do you possibly read LMS?

You can't be a child soldier if you're over 20. Also, Inaho (the protagonist) seems to have asperger syndrome, considering he fails to react to a number of situations appropriately.

Not to mention Gen Urobuchi writes the script.

Anyway, don't say I didn't warn you when you come to the realization that such a narrow outlook causes you to miss out on many things.

It's animation quality took a real hit, I re-watched the first season before I saw 2nd and it was... cringe-worthy. Still, I'm holding on cause I like the world it had told us so far.

I watched Psycho-Pass and Barakamon, worth watching and the saviour of the summer season.

Despite my complaints, I'm now watching Fate/stay night and Kiseijuu (aka Parasyte). But everyone agrees they are a must watch of the season, no matter what, right?! I'm not in the wrong here!

Shingeki no Bahamut seems okay so far, better animation than usual.

well the animations and art have taken a hit becouse they have switched to studio deen for their art design, who are mostly infamous for the old fate/ stay night anime.

i personally still really like the anime though. Even if that is only becouse it could give to me what SAO could not, a cool MMO world with adventure. and the humor helps a lot!

EDIT: Got a question about the fate series btw, so far i have only seen Fate/ zero, are there any other Fate/ series worth watching except for the new stay night?

Could try playing the Visual Novel itself?

Other than that, you could try stuff based on the same universe. The Kara no Kyoukai movies are amazing. Note that they aren't in chronological order though, in case you get a little too confused.

Finished Kara no Kyoukai a week a go actually, really interesting and offcourse beautifull. I'n not really the type for visual novels but maybe I could try it out.
