Title: Forum RPG Interest Check
Post by: GUNINANRUNIN on July 23, 2013, 08:43:04 AM
So what would you guys say to a play-by-post game thread? I run tons of these over on Bay12 and I'd really like to bring it over here! They really are tons of fun.

Here's three example threads for you:
You are Trapped (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=126469.0)
Scald (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=127819.0)
The Land of the Sky (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=128229.0)

Basically how it works is, I lay out a setting and a scenario for you, along with some rules. Then you guys create characters, and I toss you guys in! Thats just the bare essentials of it though. The complexity of a given game can vary widely.

There are a few basic kinds of forum games:
Suggestion Games - There's a single main character, and people post suggestions as to what he should do next, and how he should react to various situations that come up. This kind of game is nice since anyone can participate at any time without having to be around for each turn. Usually these games focus more on the roleplaying side of things. These can either be illustrated, or rely entirely on text.

RTDs (Roll to Die) - There are multiple players, usually 8 or more (the most I've seen at a time was about 24). The GM rolls one six-sided die (1d6 for you DnD veterans out there) to decide all outcomes. Low detail, high action, extremely simple. These ones are fast and very easy to learn. Players usually have a very low life expectancy, which has a certain appeal because players who are waiting get to drop in right away, and if you die you usually don't have to wait long to get back into the action.

TBSs (Turn-Based Strategy) - There can be multiple players, or a single main character. The players could either be fighting themselves (Fire Emblem style) or commanding armies. The GM uses maptools to illustrate scenarios, and the players give their orders in posts. The GM then updates the map, and so on and so forth.

So what do you think?? Want me to run a game for you guys?!

A suggestion game would be cool

Yeah, that'd probably be easiest. I'd love to do something with players but I dunno if I have the time to do that. I thought it best to give you all your options though.

i'd like that, there has to be a dedicated GM for it to work out though, and that's harder than it sounds

Well I was offering to do it for you guys. And like I said, I run these all the time. Its not hard for me at all.

I'll start a new thread for it and link it back here. Sound good?
