So when you click on the modify ship menu you get an convert button under the strip button (i think its under there). So does anyone have an idea what this is?

It may end up getting some functionality attached to it at some point. Or it could go away :)

The last time this kind of topic came up, I believe the consensus of the speculation was that convert would probably be used to convert a ship hull into another ship hull. If you read the description of the Buffalo Mk. II, it's supposedly converted from the hull of a Buffalo freighter. That's the sort of thing that we can probably expect from that sort of feature.

My personal guess is that something like that may be implemented when Industry stuff gets implemented, where we can actually build our own stuff.

Industry skill:

Ship Construction. 2% cheaper construction of ships.

Lv 5: Convert Buffalo MK1s to MK2s.

Lv 10: Convert Tarsus to Condor.

it would be an interesting feature if it would allow you to convert most ships into Mk II or Elite version etc giving you some nice bonus but also being very expensive....
for example Onslaught Mk II with increased turret arcs or slightly more armor
