A while ago I suggested a mod to be set with 15th century war galleons and such warships. But the topic was quickly slaughtered by people saying strafing would make no sense there and such.
The suggestion is this; Make it so that the strafing speed/acceleration would be separated from the forward speed. That way the base game would not change at all, but there could be ships with no strafing and such.

Simple, yet useful idea, +1

I agree. Would make the game be nicer to us modders ;)

+1 to you good sir...
funny, I got on just to make this suggestion :)

Great minds think the same :)

Well, set all ships to capital ship size, and they're barely have any strafe at all.
-
ya... but then the poor lasher would have to fork out all its OP for any piece of old hull mod...

That doesnt solve the problem, just gives you a half-assed way of doing it :/

In fairness, I can see why such a separation would be useful even in the base game. As it stands, if a ship can drag-race, it can dodge. I'd like to see ships with increased strafing movement, but a low standard move. It seems like it would be useful for some oddly-designed ships.

Well having a higher strafing speed than normal speed would just make people only use the strafing :p And thats pretty useless.

I dunno. I've got ideas, but I don't know if they'd really work in an actual combat scenario. Still. The suggestion could have unforeseen uses.

I made a topic about naval warfare a while earlier and they came up with a sort of solution. Make everything a huge nebula(they slow ships down). However, moddable variables in this area would be nice.
-
nebula stops drifting, not strafing...

I add my voice to the choir. ;)

I wonder upgradecap, what happens if you remove the ability to decelerate from a ship?
-
It happens that the ship can only decelerate when you turn 180 degrees and accelerate.
It's quite the amusing thing to try in an Onslaught, if you manage to get your engines disabled while burndriving. ;D

Most likely, well, stop the ship from decelerating?
