A cool weapon idea I came up with that may or may not be original.
A large, ballistic weapon That fires a random, narrow spray off 6 or 7 projectiles. Medium range but only effective at close range because of the inaccurate nature of the weapon.
So tell my what you think, its certainly something I would like to see!

Like a shotgun? It's possible, I'm your weapons expert. :)
Or if you just want it to be like a needler, it's possible as well.
anyways, it's always nice to see new weapons, I wouldn't mind.
-
I think that's called a grapeshot...
either way, sure if it's balanced. Possible via modding afaik
-
Easy as pie; already had one in my mod that I'm still gradually working out :)
-
There is one in the weapons pack mod

Shotguns are cheesy.

Shotguns are cheesy.
You shut your goddamn *** mouth. Shotguns are a blessing, just like babies, computer games and beautiful women. Space shotguns are even more of a blessing, like kittens, free games and slutty yet beautiful women.
P.S. While it's entirely natural to be offended by "shut your goddamn *** mouth", it's not meant as a particular offence. I say it a lot.

Glad you like the idea, Alex... get on it! ;D

Not entirely sure if you were making a joke because Upgradecap has a post count higher than Alex's, but just in case, Upgradecap is not Alex. Alex's account name is Alex. That's why we call him Alex.
-
Haha. He knows UpgradeCap isn't Alex man. Lol.

When someone says "glad you like the idea, Alex..." it looks like they're talking to Alex, because that's how written English works. Re-reading it, if he wanted it to mean what I now think he intended, he should have used a period instead of a comma.

Yeah but not everyone has English as a first language.
On topic: A shotgun would be awesome! Would have a decent range, but the "pellets" would spread more over range, so close range would be optimal. Im pretty sure both kinetic and HE could be used with this.

I never said it was or wasn't his first language.

No but that could have been the cause. But lets not go OT here.

HE space shotgun. I... I have to admit, I'm engaged, but only now do I understand what love is.

That makes sense dosnt it? Im sure you could stuff those slugs with explosives. Such as incendiary ammo IRL.
-
You could definitely do it. Such a gun would make a decent PD weapon, because it's firing a screen of particles, but it would still have the raw power to punch through armour at close range.
-
The drawback would be low ammo though, as the pellets/cartridges take alot of space I reckon.
-
With real-world shotguns (I own one - no kidding ;D No comparison to wha Austipio's been doing though), the shell IS big compared to rifle bullets, but only very fat. They're usually much shorter than a rifle bullet. Same space, I'd reckon.
-
Kinetic would make the most sense though. A lot of small impacts is exactly what armor in Starfarer is best against.
Fragmentation would make sense too, but then it would be too similar to flak.
-
Space shotgun, poorman's flak gun.

You should visit the modding section. There are some shot/shrapnel gun there.

The buckshot cannon(weapons mod) on a hound, is insanely fun

To clarify, my first language is English (how dare you assume an alternative, other languages don't exists) however I am dyslexic and obviously UpgradeCap isn't Alex.
Also, what I said made sense too me.
“Glad you like the idea, (pause) Alex... (wait for Alex's attention) get on it!”

A period is what you were looking for, not a comma.
