Title: BattleFarer Forever [v 0.3]

Backstory:

------------------------[LOG]-------------------------

It is the 200th cycle and the war for Corvus between the Hegemony and Tri-Tachyon continues to grow ever larger. Resources begin to dwindle and become scarce, but soon, rumours spread of a resource that is much more valuable than all the others. Known as “Tritinium”, this mineral has a large abundance in the Corvus sector, and it is this abundance which brought two new factions into the system. The GGG Heavy Industries Fleet and the Ordanian Fleet are two groups from separate systems who came into the system to take it over and acquire all of the Tritinium. After coming into contact with each other and the pre-existing factions of the pirates, Hegemony and Tri-Tachyon; a mutual treaty was enacted between all of the factions. The war between the Hegemony and Tri-Tachyon was to stop, and mutual sharing of resources between all of the factions was to begin. However, human greed eventually won out and the peace was broken when the Hegemony attacked a Tri-Tachyon mining station. Caught in the crossfire, the GGG Heavy Industries fleet and the Ordanian were dragged into the war. The system is now in total anarchy, with everyone at war with each other and the pirates preying on the injured fleets. There are travellers who come in from across the galaxy, with unique and powerful ships. Their goal is the same as everyone else’s, get the Tritinium.

A few years have passed since that time, and the war still rages on. You are a member of an independent company, with years of experience with fighting in space. You have been stationed on an outpost in the outskirts of the system, and will receive regular supply runs from your company. Your job is to quell the war and reinstate peace, whatever the costs may be. You have been given command of a fleet, with orders to kill if necessary. What will you do now? Will you take over the system and act as dictator? Will you allow the war to last and take your profits? Will you choose to make one faction supreme leader of Corvus?

The choice is yours.

Originally a heavy cargo ship, this high tech ship has now been converted into a light, long range bombardment cruiser

Anamar

This light cruiser proves to be a formidable thorn in any opposing fleets side. Fitted with 6 small turrets and 2 medium turrets, It is extremely effective at keeping pesky incoming fighters and bombers at bay

The Hive

A large energy-class capital ship, capable of long range punishment with it's hard point-mounted tachyon lance and it's ten auto-pulse laser cannons, Sure to make any opposing capital ship flee for it's life. However it's lack of many PD defenses and a shallow angled front-mounted shield make it vulnerable to attack from strike craft.

Heliotrix

This capital ship features 7 large turret mounts, 8 medium turret mounts and 4 medium missile hard points. It can easily take on various threats on its own, but lacks the necessary PD defenses to cope with large amounts of fighters and bombers

Lady Of Pain

This heavy capital ship is capable of taking on numerous enemies on it's own, outfitted with 6 large turret points and 4 medium turrets, This ship is truly a force to be reckoned with

Regal Basilisk

This Heavy carrier boasts 5 medium turret points, 6 small turret points and 3 large flight decks. It's great at helping provide that supporting role large fleets need in order to maintain strike craft

Wreckerbee

This light destroyer is outfitted with 2 large hard points, and 2 medium missile hard points, originally designed as a wrecking bot for ship debris cleanup, it's large cargo hold helps provide great support for larger fleets

This High tech, Lightweight destroyer is capable of long range support using it's 3 large turret points fitted with varying beam weapons, whilst its 2 medium turret points help prevent incoming missiles

HABS Ramona

This high-tech frigate is outfitted with 1 large and 2 small turret points, Providing great assistance when dealing with other pesky frigates

RACR Knives

This lightweight frigate is great at helping provide strike craft backup when dealing with bigger ships. It's quick speed and agility make it great at drawing fire while bombers go in for the kill

SFMS Pine

This lightweight frigate helps provide long range bombardment support, sporting 1 medium turret point and 2 medium missile hard points. It can provide great suppressive fire when needed

SHABS Pilgrim

This heavy cruiser boasts 3 large turret points, 4 medium hard points and 1 large hardpoint for an experemental new weapon. It's main beam cannon is capable of ripping whole ships in half with a single burst, but leaves the Pilgrim practically helpless due to the high flux cost

GGG HI Ingram

This mid-range frigate, outfitted with 2 medium turrets and 2 small turrets can help provide great support during small skirmishes

GGG HI Lee

GGG HI Patel

Progress Report:

Okay, so we got a bunch of new stuff added, some secret stuff but some i can brag about

Added Xangle's Smoke Effect script, which was refurbished by Uozmoz
Added Lazy Wizard and Xangle's Armor Piercing and Shield Piercing scripts
Added a new Minelayer weapon, for use with the Regal Basilisk
Added a bunch of other weapons, unlike any that's been seen before
Added the framework for the GGG and Ordanian factions
Added the rest of the uniques to get spawned

Fixed the spawning without enough crew problems
Fixed the spawning without enough supplies problems

Edited some ship stats and weapon stats for balancing
Edited the Wreckerbee unique faction to have 3 ships patrolling instead of one (major buff, watch out!)

No new DL link yet, that will hopefully come when all the GGG and Ordanian ships are implemented

Minor critique of the sprites:

First, sorry if any of this is even mildly offensive, I haven't shown any art here so I should probably refrain from offering critique, but I thought I'd note the things I saw :)
1.  I'd like to see stronger highlighting and try to emulate the lightsource model used by SF's artist (see the Dram for a really clean example of where the lights are).
2.  I think that the sprite edges need to be a bit cleaner; probably the easiest quick fix would be a one-pixel inset, lowering the opacity of the border pixels and elimination of the gray fuzzies I can see on some of the sprites.
3.  I see various small things going on where you've tried to apply "paint stripes" to areas.  You might want to review them and make sure that both sides are 100% symmetrical, etc.  Also be aware that they're going to need some pixel editing to clean up panel lines, and it would be nice to see some hand-edit to give them a rougher edge, suggesting some wear.

Haha I see some of those from the community pseudo-chainship project :)
They have some really good ships on those threads, might have to check it out. They're all community built and thus free to use by the community, according to Seraph anyways.

I may have to get back into spriting sometime.  These look pretty fun.

I use BFF sprites to bash all my normal SF ships anyways, hehe.  I do heavy Photoshooping to them though, to make them more Starfarerey.

The reason is because some of them are perfect for an very old project to add the Masters of Orion into Star Farer, heres a example of schematics i got here for each race, you will see some of those ships just plainly "fit in" with the artwork here:

Just because I gave you permission to use them for your mod and cleaned them up for you, does not mean you can claim exclusive rights to them. They're still my ships, with the exception of the ones from the Pseudo Chainship Project, which are community-made ships that are free for anyone to use.

They are all sprites from the battleships forever forum, hence the quirky name :), the other ships are unique looking so I'll keep them separate/ use them for both factions

Due to the fact my operating system decided it doesnt like the hard drive, it wiped itself, forcing me to need to reformat the pc, losing EVERYTHING. Nothing has been saved, and i'm deeply saddened by this. If anyone wants to take this project on, feel free, I'm very sorry

Too bad that with your computer :/ I did really love the look of the capital ships.....when I think about it I loved the look of almost every ship that is in this mod.

Well I am not as often on the forums as I used to be because now I have school , friends and all that good ***.  I have probably missed a lot of good mods but I am online sometimes so I am glad I noticed this mod. It would be a shame to not do anything with it thinking about that you have done a good bit of work already and have some good looking sprites too.

Well I am not as often on the forums as I used to be because now I have school , friends and all that good ***.  I have probably missed a lot of good mods but I am online sometimes so I am glad I noticed this mod. It would be a shame to not do anything with it thinking about that you have done a good bit of work already and have some good looking sprites too.

Well I am not as often on the forums as I used to be because now I have school , friends and all that good ***.  I have probably missed a lot of good mods but I am online sometimes so I am glad I noticed this mod. It would be a shame to not do anything with it thinking about that you have done a good bit of work already and have some good looking sprites too.

Kind of, my pc has gone into production and I've been fiddling with some sprites whilst in work, will have the pc hopefully anytime between the 3rd of January and the 8th :)

I'm thinking each unique ship can only spawn once at a time in the system, and can build up their own fleets over time, you get control over the Wreckerbee when you start campaign and can do the same

A quick update for the people so you can know what we might be adding to the mod when it releases:

ok i had an idea for the anmar (more specificly my customised version of the one with the old colors)

How it works and the effects:

1. You activate the ability and it will start an animation (might be possible to make with the new codings)

2. The animation will start pulling in parts of the ship that is not directly connected to the ship (connected with beams or whatever)

3. The animation will work as a charge up beacuse when all the parts have been pulled into the hull it will either give a massive boost (like the hegemony capital ship) or it will give the ship a good boost in speed but lower it's turning speed

4. It will either be an ability that can last for a certain amount of time or it will be one that can be turned on and off at a cost.

 Short explination: The ability will start an animation that will pull in certain ship parts, after that all the engine power is transfered to the back to eiher give a massive boost for a certain amount of time or be possible to toggle on and off at a price

It would start in this shape:

Another possible ship system:

This is meant to make The Hive more of a support ship

If you look at the picture you can see that i have marked of 2 areas on the ship.
These areas will work as a hangar for special drones, more specificly it is gonna be based on your drone idea.

It will spawn 1 drone from each of the marked areas, which will have a drone that will be of the size of a hound class frigate (might as well be smaller) which will be equiped with long range weapons. they are gonna be relativey slow or not able to move at all and provide long range support with the ship. I have not made any sprite to resemble them but they are either gonna be  circular or like maximillians shield drones just bigger.

not really, the current release is a sneak peak at what how the unique ships are gonna be like, you are normally (when we have added 1-2 factions and given a more proper release) it will be like any other normal gameplay where you have to work to get the better ships :)

Nah, It's just for testing, Unless you contribute, at which point you get a portrait added(if you supply one :P) And a special version with your chosen ship set as your starting one

Well, I started with the Heliotrix and it was decidedly slow, yet OPd.
I went into the CSV file and fiddled with a few things...  :P
Long story short, it has a top speed in combat of 200, a venting rate of 10000, a base capacity of 50000 and increased turn rate. I take on the Pirate Armadas with 1 ship.
I feel really guilty for this, but it's so much fun... :P

I was pleasantly surprised, though, when I took out a carrier fleet before my... *ahem* Meddling...

The ships feel great, and I love the new content. Keep up the good work.

P.S. If you need help with the Lore, just PM me the basic stuff and I'll see what I can do

Originally it was the Netlon Sentinel, after an Autechre track, though you're free to rename it.

Also, you might be better off using the shiny "touched-up" version, inspired by Cycerin's work:

They are possibly looking darker because of the background or something :P They look similar because of that number one (Currently called The Rouges) are a rouge "state" of sorts created by a group of people who broke of from the Hegemony-ish faction (nr. 2) and settled on a station on the edge of the system :)

yup ^^ They are sort of be a pirate faction but they are gonna have more high tech ships so they are gonna be more of a challange :)

Gladly, i did really like most of the ships, although i must ask, is there a reason that the only ships implemented are capitals and a super heavy freighter?
Are smaller ships planned to flesh out the fleets? i severely hope so because the capitals are a lot of fun, although compared to vanilla ships quite over powered.

To balance that if you don't want to dim the lights a bit so to speak the capitals should be massively rare and or expensive.

Also i do like that for testing purposes (or at least i hope so) that you put all the ships added into the starting dialogue to try them out.

The last thing i have to say is that the idea that everything is trying to murder you is quite possibly one of the greatest things ever, although there is an issue with the hegemony trying to kill you as well, the main issue being that you spawn on their planet next to a giant defense fleet this will be an issue once you remove the giant fleet of capitals for you to choose from at the beginning

If you want to use these, Sprog, I can tweak the screenshots to a blank background. Or you could just open them up in shipmaker and do it yourself. Whatever works best.

Uh, I'm not too good at spriting from scratch. However, Horsemonster did offer up his weapon sprites for download here (http://www.wyrdysm.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=4770) that match the bsf styles quite well.

I could attempt to make some using the shipmaker, but I can't guarantee the results to be any good.

PROGRESS REPORT!

Okay, so we got a bunch of new stuff added, some secret stuff but some i can brag about

Added Xangle's Smoke Effect script, which was refurbished by Uozmoz
Added Lazy Wizard and Xangle's Armor Piercing and Shield Piercing scripts
Added a new Minelayer weapon, for use with the Regal Basilisk
Added a bunch of other weapons, unlike any that's been seen before
Added the framework for the GGG and Ordanian factions
Added the rest of the uniques to get spawned

Fixed the spawning without enough crew problems
Fixed the spawning without enough supplies problems

Edited some ship stats and weapon stats for balancing
Edited the Wreckerbee unique faction to have 3 ships patrolling instead of one (major buff, watch out!)

No new DL link yet, that will hopefully come when all the GGG and Ordanian ships are implemented

That Lady of pain... Probably the most powerful ship in the entire community, I have taken on whole Hegemony fleets, and they can't even take out my shields!
The only faction I have minor problems with is Tri Tachyon, but that is only because they have long range lasers that really still do not do ANYTHING to the shield.
And props to the people who did the sprites for the ship :P

Coding is large subject. It might help to narrow what it is that needs to be done. I'm sure Halp will come if we're patient. A new version is like a global reset for mods. Free hands will arrive once catch up has been achieved.

I just had an idea if we could just open up a currently working .6a mod....to see where they asign points for systems, that will be a massive tip. Lets see here... ;D Take neutrino for example, he has a file called neutrinoConvoySpawnPoint.java located in a "world" folder which is located in the data folder. It has the formats of spawn points and such. His mod is stable on .6a so I think it'd be a good reference. I think I have a break through.....I think :)..I think ;D...I can't understand any of dis :o !!!XD  ???

Perhaps getting him to explain what the codes actually mean and how they corrospond to the game is the best start.

well I was thinking you can just copy and paste the code. Then insert in your "Ids" and change the coordinates. Wouldn't that work? If so, maybe someone could create a template with blank slots for future modders if successful

partly, but not mainly, it was other things behind the scenes, and no, i wouldn't say he was a nice guy, he was very selfish and arrogant and would throw his fist at you if you said anything that didn't float his boat, he had his moments a while back, he was a nice guy, but recently he just turned into someone i just wouldn't call nice, at all.

Haha, Nahhhh. I've only just came back from a two year absence! I'm afraid the mod won't (Or shouldn't, haven't tried it yet lol) work in 0.65.2a at the moment. It needs an overhaul and reimagining which I plan on getting underway this weekend!

Thanks for the offer! So far, I mainly need the campaign interaction first so I can just SEE what needs doing to the ships hehe. Then, ONTO WEAPONS!

ahh, i love those ships, i have all of em in BSF. well, from the GGG and Ordanian or whatever that is... SWS makes some damn good ships, even though he can be a bit cranky at times.

(If you need BSF stuff I went on a tirade a while ago and made a full faction lineup of Starsector-sized ships you could absolutely use. I'd need to tweak them a bit, but if you want they are yours.)
