Title: what do you guys take on piracy of games?
Post by: Upgradecap on April 17, 2012, 05:46:34 AM
As the OP says, I just wanted to hear your opinion on it.

Don't talk about piracy in official game's forums. I've seen threads like this locked pretty much everywhere with a warning to the author.

Yeah, I've seen that. BUT I'm not stating the use of, refrencing pirate(s) or such. And i do not condone the use of piracy.
And I just wanted to hear opinions about it, not tell pepole where they can get the latest game through the use of said action or such.

Edited - just saying that is about the same as mentioning them explicitly - Alex

So, opinion? Good? Bad? What could be improved to counter piracy?

The best "counter" to piracy is just not to worry about it at all is my attitude. Sure a company may spend a million dollars on a "perfect" system, but it only takes one person to crack it and that's that million down the drain. Not to mention the sales lost because of people that just cannot be arsed dealing with the several hundred burning hoops they have to jump through just to play their overpriced and probably disappointing game

The more you fight piracy the more you encourage it.

It’s an odd thing I know. When assassins creed 2 came out and it forced you to be online AT ALL TIMES!!! I was forced to crack a game I had bought because otherwise it was unplayable. In a case like this were pirates were better off than people who actually bought the game... Ubisoft failed in its place as a publisher to understand and what piracy is really about.

95% of piracy is not a loss in sales.
People, who pirate either would not pay for the game anyways, can’t afford the game, or want to test it first.

Spending your budget to counter something that is unstoppable is simply insane.

The only use of piracy I go for, is acquiring precious BUFFALO MKII. Damn they pretty much feed all my earlygames.

I know I've said before that "piracy as a topic" is fine, but it always seems to cross into specific instances or people saying that they do it. So, let's not go there.
