Title: dead broke help!
Post by: majorfreak on May 24, 2018, 08:29:05 PM
alright, so i've got lots of supplies and fuel, plus a battlecruiser (and a few destroyers in storage) with about 1500 cargohold total in my current setup. I'm basing out of Sindria and i haven't got a commission with anyone (it's really early in the game)...i've got a bunch of lvl3 skills (the bottom line of skills, plus one single skill for getting 6 officers - haven't gotten any more than 4 though)

i just can't seem to get bounties near me, and i am having a hard time breaking into the missions for scanning derelict ships (they seem to be reallly far away)

vanilla game, latest version, no mods

-Bounties spawn more far with your level.
-Survey delerict is better when you have just 1-2 frigates(1 tanker, after)

You need to do  far bounties, and in your fleet, you need to have tanker for made the path *1.5 (because the random can kill you :p), this is all.
Send a screenshoot for know what look your fleet, maybe that who fail for you?

Main problem is probably the battlecruiser. If you're set up so that you have "a few destroyers" and a battlecruiser. And the destroyers are in storage then you're lugging around a huge piece of equipment for little gain.

Pull one or two of those destroyers out of storage, buy a fuel tanker and fill up with gas. This should be easy at Sindara, then you can do the scanning missions and salvage while you're there.

Survey mission is best with a single Dram, Dram best ship, Dram OP.
Make sure to equip safety override and Unstable Injector, and always retreat from serious combat.

The only exploration ship today is a tanker, because no other ship has enough fuel to go far enough beyond core worlds and back.  Similarly, burn speed of individual ships by endgame does not matter because the fleet will have a Prometheus, the slowest ship in the game, to fuel your battleships and their escorts.  This is why I have no problem with Sustained Burn being the default mode of travel 99+% of the time.

Food runs as most of your income was a 0.6.5 thing only.  That was gone since the 0.7 era.

huh. lol. okay, that totally metagames it to the point where i'd probably just console some credits into my account instead.
But, still, i can see the logic behind min/maxing since it's a flat rate regardless of how much you invest into scanning the derelict/etc.

Kind of surprised a ship like that would be even able to fit both those hull mods. Alex should definitely restrict them from being placed onto civilian ships (although not sure if dram is civilian hull...pretty sure it is)
Besides, even if you couldn't fit those hull mods and sometimes died to attacks, i'm sure the cost/benefit ratio would still be outstanding.

thanks for the tip regardless of my misgivings.

Can a dram equip safety overides? I thought it was a civilian hull.

Dram + Wolf + Buffalo (A) is a solid exploration squadron that can still fight minor threats and pick up the plentiful loot in the outer systems.

i never got the hang of the wolf, even though my first introduction to StarSector was the intro video by BeagleRush. I love the buffalo (a) and dram combo. got two each, plus a larger tanker (pheaton?), for my current fleet.

I was doing the derelict scan missions, but i found that salvaging hauls were incredibly lucrative (but took so much cargo) while i was in unexplored systems

I was wrong, I think one or two of the speed boost systems I mentioned couldn't be equipped.
Drams still outrun almost everything though, a notable commonly encountered exception being speed boosted Luddic Path ships, but fortunately you can pay them to avoid combat.
