Title: How to get superior weapons and ships to show up.
Post by: wei270 on January 11, 2018, 02:26:25 PM
i remember that in order for some better ships and weapon to show up in the market you need time for the economy to develop?

so what are the mechanism that can make this process faster?

do i just trade on the open market for the stuff that the planet needs?

I'm not sure the markets grow in the current patch, so what they can sell is RNG, based on the size and type of market.

Military markets sell the best ships and equipment, and the bigger a market is the more likely it'll have a lot of good weapons to sell.

You remember falsely, unless previous versions of the game were different.

Markets have a list of things that they can sell which varies from month-to-month. The value of the stuff they sell and what you can find on the black market is primarily influenced by the market's owner, Size and Stability. Size and owner cannot be changed at the moment and it is very hard to boost stability.

The markets refresh every now and then (once every 10 days or once a month, don't remember which) and generate a new inventory. Getting the stuff you want is a matter of going to the right markets and being lucky. And of course you can only reliably find military-grade ships on worlds marked as being "(Military)", or on the black markets of prosperous worlds.

If you want higher-end gear, the bigger Hegemony, Tri-Tachyon and Persean League Military worlds are your best bet. If you want high-end gear without taking a commission, the independent military markets in the Askonia system and the home system of the Luddic Church (I forget the name) are your best bet.

owner cannot be changed at the moment.

Well, the Nexerelin mod lets the factions capture planets and bases... but yeah, doesn't quite work in vanilla.

One current method I use to find more ships in markets is to buy up all of said market's existing inventory. Then when the market refreshes, there are more options for a desirable spawn. This is a very cost intensive method however.

This is why there is no such thing as too much money.  Cleaning out markets like this is a huge money sink.  It is like gambling at Gheed's (in Diablo 2).

so how do you go about stabilizing markets? avoid the black market? supply its demands and ship out its excess output?

Sorta yeah, you do have to keep in mind that some markets have too many detrimental modifiers at the start. Those kind of markets aren't worth trying to save.

Anyways, if you want good quality ships, going for independent (military) markets might be your best bet. Alternatively, you can try to get a commission with one of the major factions.

Generally the tech tier list for vanilla goes like this.

Tri-Tach - (Mid-high tech, high maintenance) beam/energy weapons, fighters, good shields, low armor.

Persen/Sindrian (Mid tech, jack of all traits) balanced KE/HE weapons with a few energy weapons, med shields, med armor

Hegemony/Independent (Low-mid tech, low maintenance) longranged ballistics, harpoons galore, meh shields, super armor and hull.

Pirates/luddic (low tech, low maintenance) short ranged rapid weapons, hammer torpedos(ludd), bad shields, ok armor, very speedy.

A chepaer, cheatier version of this is to download the Console Mod and use the refresh markets command. Essentially every 30 days the markets refresh, changing their stock. Using the command just refreshes on input.

This problem is why losing ships in this game is so painful and often it's impossible to play without save scumming.

Getting money to buy gear is not a problem. The real problem is finding that gear - you have to run around the entire sector like a rat in a maze and search for weapons and ships you need. All the while burning supplies/fuel in the process and risking running into enemies, potentially losing more ships which force you to do even more market rummage. Keeping a stockpile of weapons in a storage is pretty much mandatory, but even that doesn't always help.

Its part of the game that you can't always find the ship you want in the market. If you could, why would you need to try to capture ships?

Finding most ships is not too hard like it used to be.  (Restoring recovered ships is expensive, though.)  On the other hand, weapons that are not common in Open Market or pirates' Black Markets are annoyingly rare.  It is generally easier to replace ships than weapons now.

anyone know how to reduce negative effects on market stability for imports?

is it negative because there is too much imports or is it negative because there is too little imports?

Too much importing.

I'm hoping that vanilla adds a way to commission ship constructions, maybe only certain military stations that have a certain industry building or multiple (to balance against economic industries) to do that.  Omnifactory mod does something like that, where comissioning them costs way more and you need to donate a ship you want to be able to comission so they could reverse engineer for blueprints.  I think vanilla should also have a way to repair the hull defects of recovered ships, even if only half or a limit to how many times per ship. I think omni factory or some other mod did this at some point, but it was way expensive to do so, but it at least made recovering more viable.  I hate having junk ships with broke down hull mods.

We will be able to build ships from blueprints most likely in the next release

Hopefully, weapons too.  It is harder to arm ships with the good stuff than it is to recover ships.  My most likely source of quality weapons is loot from enemies.

0.8.x has the Restore button at the refit screen.  If you have enough money, pay up and all of the (D)-mods on the ship go away.  (You do not have a choice to leave some (D)-mods while removing some - it is all-or-nothing.)  However, (D)-mods are often a sidegrade instead of a downgrade.  The reduced costs granted by (D)-mods are often worth it, and combined with expensive restore costs, I leave most ships with (D) mods alone.
