You can set the weapon type as hidden, as opposed to turret or hardpoint

just saying, you can't actually hide the missiles they launch as hidden by changing the weapon to hidden, you'll have enter the weapon file and turn off the "    "renderHints":[RENDER_LOADED_MISSILES],       "

portion to hide missiles when they aren't launched

If only there was a way to not have that weapons GUI there. Then again you can always shut off the whole GUI.

Might help make your screen shots look better in the future.

man i started a thread earlier for my own BSG mod.  I got the ships and all, but i was struggling with the scaling, id love to see how you compensated the game with the lore style ships with nearly 40 guns on each side.  I hope you included as many ships as i did tho ;).  i had most cra, just when i added an insane amount of weapons appearing under the ship, it became quite unstable.  Id love to see how you made your mod.  I LOVE BSG.

Yeah, from my testing so far I found out there needs to be a way to zoom out farther, there so big! (that screenshot is at max zoom out.)

currently there is only 2 ships in the game one for each side these ship will be my bench mark for the rest of ship balancing wise the next thing im working on is the fighter wings.

also the screenshot is taken at max zoom im also going to be working to make it so you can zoom out more because some of the ship are large so yeah

so i though i would just post an update

i have finally balanced the fighters so these will be my bench mark for fighters
i have made it so
5 squads of 4 vipers can take on
10-11 squads of 6 raiders

thats

20 vipers vs 60-66 raiders

Hey, I have one tip for you when you are doing 2d sprites. When you get pictures, (for example, the Ikaros) they are usually taken with lighting, so the ship is bright on one side and dark on the other. To make it into a not-derp Starfarer-worthy sprite, do one quick edit on the ships in some image editor program, like GIMP. Take the "bright" half of the ship, and duplicate it, deleting the "dark" half. Like, for the Ikaros, duplicate the left half. Sprites look silly if there are constant shadows, while they themselves are rotating.

EDIT: I mean, sprites look silly if they are shaded asymmetrically, while they themselves are symmetrical. Also, I edited the Ikaros as an example. (It is spelled "Ikaros", right? The font was hard to read)

well i think i should inform you that i made the sprite from scratch and i rather liked the shadows. thanks for the advice i will do this for the next ship and i will edit this one befor i put it in the game

for the cylons the main reason is they look extremely organic and don't go with the other cylon ships very well

well the old basestars do but the new on the raiders don't require a flight deck they just fly into little pockets on the outside of the basestar

Could you make it so there are a couple different missiles to choose from for the basestar? That way cylons get some tactics also...

And I really think you should look at the BSGO ships - they would add the middle classes of ships instead of it just being capitals and fighter wings. Just don't add the nidhogg - it is ugly honestly and doesn't look remotely like anything in the shows. All the other ones seem fine in my opinion... Oh well, it's your mod I guess. But really. Consider it!

I have to confess, I play BSGO and would really just love to fly a banshee in starfarer. :P

i play BSGO too & i dont thing nidhogg is "ugly", yup it have strange looking design but it's an aggressively strange looking design.
If any ships are "ugly" look closely at the human side shipsm almoust all looks like cardboard box
& i ain't gonna play this mod untill have all designs from BSGO

Omagawd. This mod is epic on a scale unlike anything I've ever played. The sheer number of weapons being fired, the sheer number of ships flying around getting blown up, the Mercury bravely soloing three basestars.... it fully, fully blows fight for universe out of the water. My computer nearly melted down playing this.

I have one problem to point out though, for some reason the Battlestar takes damage (about 35 damage per second) (mercury) when I fire the flak cannons.

The battlestars could realistically use a bit more hp too

so to adress the bsgo thing i will consider it. and as of saying you will not play my mod until the bsgo ships are in is kinda rude man seriously ive put alot of work into this mod so far and for you to say that its just wtf.

second of all the weapons thing yes in the next realeas there is going to be tons of weapons. also the galactica class will be getting a small upgrade in weapons. along with all the fighters.

and now the health for the battlestars. this is what i have done so it is a blanced game because these ships have no shields i have made every ship have the same amount of hitpoints. what makes the ship last longer is its hull plating every ship has different amount of hull plating depending on the size and how new/old the design is.

yes and the galactica has a few flaks that need changed. the ship tons of weapons so making sure everyone of them shoots in the right direction has been lets just say a ***.

The red glow is armour melting and breaking. The armour is so high on Battlestars and basestars this doesn't occur

also this is the first release there will be more stuff in future updates please be patient. and if you had taken a couple minutes to read the posts above yours you would have realized i addressed all that stuff already i dont mean to sound like a *** but you know i gets annoying.

Well oh well.
Mission 1 for both sides is ill balanced. The colonials win too easily even i stay halfway across the battlefield launching all missiles when cylon.
The raiders are too easily destroyed.

Mission 2 is better, much better, actually balanced.

The cylon basestar with 200+ missiles is nice, but it could really use a weapon group with most of them to set on autofire and another group with just 1 or 2, so i can actually see the battlefield and not a wall of text with all weapons.

the biggest problem ive had so far with mission 1 is that if you play cylons the colonials retreat and if you play colonials you overpower the enemy.it mainly the ai and the ships should be more balanced in next update. yes im making it so its better trust me next realese will be much better.

Sorry about not reading the whole thread, it is just getting a bit long, and face it, I am lazy.

Oh, the Galactica is a Jupiter class apparently. I found that when looking up the Nova class which I just found out about here. I really don't care, but it is something you might want to change when you get around to it to make this mod more professional

And try raising the FP cost of the colonial ships - that may be why they are retreating. The computer probably thinks they are weaker because they have fewer total fleet points than the cylons. The costs are too low anyway - cylons have to capture beacons but humans don't have to capture any to deploy all their ships. That would also make them less overpowering...

I don't know if that is actually true by the way.... but that seems like it could be the reason.

Hi again.

I have to say this, there were 12 different battlestars built yes, but they were built during the first cylon war. They were also the same design no different. Since then they have got bigger, better, and more numerous. I mean look at the filom razor, you see a lot more than twelve battlestars get there ass handed to them.

Even still, it doesn't look anything like a Cylonish thing. There's no smooth, elegant curves or fusion of organically grown and cold steel structure there, it's just spiky and ugly.

Anyway, it must have been your ::) faces. Try using  :P s instead. I do agree with you about the human ships in BSGO, but then if you look at half the things we build in RL they look like boxes of some type or another so it is accurate at least. :P

i have started to re-watch the show and have realized i was missing some things on the galactica. Also i have done some more research into the old basestars and have realized i have made them extremly underpowered so below is what will be changed in the upcoming release

Hades class basestar

i do intend on adding as many ships as i possibly can. the biggest issue is i am a one man team and there is a lot of work involved and i dont have very much time to work on it this is due to the fact i work from 5 at night till 11 at night when i get home i dont wanna work on it which leaves me with 2-3 hours before i go to work to work on it.

i wasnt even aware there was an update. Like.. its just silly for fractal softworks to release an update in the same month as their previous update. Who would even think of that..

meanwhile, arcen games over here has put out 7 different updates for 2 different games, while working on a third.. in the last week. (mind you, its only a 2 man team..)

It's good as far as I can tell. I'll put it on my decent computer when I get home, the laptop can't run it for it's life.


The Hades(I think that's the huge circular cylon one, I might be wrong, not up on my BSG lore anymore), is a bit OP, well, at least boring to fight. Reduce it's armor and upgrade it's weapons. Making the mass of ships a very large number would also be nice, it makes ramming very fun and risky, and makes ramming a actual tactical option.

Well the Hades Class Was Build before the Galactica Class Battlestars were so it would have pretty weak weapons and as for the armor i am working on a way to make it not so bad but if you remember it was that ship that brought the colonial fleet to its knees in the first cylon war and if it wasnt for the final five it probably would have destroyed the colonies

Just got the game and immediatley looked for a BSG mod, just wanted to say thank you and best of luck as i will cheer from the sidelines as i have no computer skills.

Just a thought regarding shields could use the premise of flak batteries which funnily act the same way as shields (they would look like lots of tiny explosions) to then be able to reintroduce them back into the game.

Think of he show they set up a perimeter their guns set to flack duties.

I rly want to play this one but can't, any may know why?

Tryed it with Starfarer version:
0.52a = error at starts
0.52.1a = can't download from anywher, link on forrum errors
0.53.1a = game runs like without mod (checked mod b4 lunching game)

with starsector ofc error.

So this game can be runned only with 0.52.1a or there is some other way/error about it?
or this just require another mods to run?

I'd appreaciate any help!


Edit: I was just informed that 0.52.1a ver is not avaible any longer

Honestly, i prefer the previous ones. The lightning is more accurate and the greebling work much better. They may not feel very Starsector-esque but with some photoshop effect on top of them it could do the trick.

i agree which is what i did originally but then i thought about what i was going to do when i need to make new ships that were not in the cg style. so in order to keep everything looking similar when i make new ships i just remake everything into a style that is re creatable.
