Can someone make a mod that eliminates all shields from the game?
I don't mean delete every ship that has a shield, but just remove the shields themselves.
This was the system I though of:
- All ship variants WITH shields will be given the no shield hullmod
- The forward shield hullmod will be disabled

I'm serious. SS would be fun without shields, like a TC for the pre-expansion.

Here, this is how you'd make your own mod that does this:
- Open Starsector/starsector-core/data/hulls/ship_data.csv (back this file up first)
- Change all of the shield_type values to NONE
- Save the file
All the shields are now gone.

That'll throw off the balance of the game quite a bit however.

Or you could mod the shield bypass mod onto every ship that has a shields if you want to maintain vanilla's established balance curve

What about fighters? Would it get rid of fighter shields too?

You're gonna make a lot of the high tech ships total shite, bro.
Paragon won't even be able to hold a candle to the Onslaught if you take away its shields + a lot of the high tech frigates will now die faster than fighter wings.

Thats perfectly fine. I just want faster battles and less nonsense all over the place.
Kind of like making all the ships equally vulnerable and not hide behind their shields all the time.

Have you tried using more kinetics? :P Strap on some heavy needlers and watch the enemy shields melt.
Seriously though, no high tech ship is going to be able to survive without shields. At all. And the only weapon you will ever use is the Heavy Mauler, which is going to be ridiculous without shields to stop it.

Lets be fair, you will also use light assault guns, hellbore cannons, reaper launchers, and point defense.

But won't this give low and mid tech ships an advantage because of stronger hulls and armor. Are you sure?

There won't be any advantages at all unless you are a cruiser vs frigates.
Everything else is an even playing field, where battles take less time and are much more intense.

Umm, there are plenty of ships that are balanced around having shields... you really haven't thought this through, have you?

It would also be cool for a mod to make fleets more random. Not Dynasector, because that isn't random enough:
- All faction fleets contain 50% ships from its own faction and 50% ships from all other factions/mods
- All ships have half the weapons that it's variant says it should have and half the weapons from other factions/mods
- All markets contain a much larger variety of ships from all mods
UPDATE:
why??? cuz the game is always the same. Every fleet is the same, all ships are the same, and all markets are the same, not to mention, empty.
